JOB OPPORTUNITY: Finance Associate, Caucus Fundraising Job Description. Democrats in the Michigan House have taken the majority for the first time in over a decade. In order to help protect that majority, we are seeking to build out our finance staff for the 2024 cycle. The Michigan House Democratic Fund (MHDF) is hiring a highly motivated, organized individual to assist the finance team with operations and contribute to the overall goal of holding the House in 2024. The Finance Associate position is based in Lansing, Michigan and reports directly to the Deputy Finance Director and Finance Director. They will provide the team with fundraising and office management assistance.

Key Responsibilities include: *Assist Deputy Finance Director and Finance Director with prospecting, donor research, and call time preparation; *Maintain fundraising databases and lists; *Assist with staffing call time as needed; *Prepare donor thank you letters; *Complete office management tasks as needed; *Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: A willingness to learn prospecting and donor research best practices; A willingness to learn how to navigate NGP, Numero, ActBlue, and Google Suite; An ability to produce detail-oriented work in a fast-paced environment; Strong people skills and patience; A strong commitment to Democratic values and getting Democrats elected.

PAID INTERNSHIP WITH DEFENSE COUNTERINTELLIGENCE & SECURITY AGENCY: The DCSA Student Experience (DSE) is a paid internship program designed to attract diverse and talented students enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate degree program from an accredited college or university. Students have an opportunity to gain marketable developmental experience in counterintelligence and insider threat, industrial security, personnel security, security training, and other DCSA core mission and support areas. Students typically work for a recommended minimum of 10 weeks from June through August as full-time, temporary federal employees. Students that successfully complete the summer program may be eligible to return to their internship during academic breaks. Students must provide proof of full-time enrollment from an accredited institution in order to be considered. All students will successfully complete the security clearance process and pass a drug screening test prior to receiving a final offer to participate in the program. Students who receive successful performance may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent position if all requirements are met. REMOTE OR IN-PERSON INTERNSHIP AT US DEPT OF JUSTICE: The Department of Justice’s Consumer Protection Branch (CPB) is responsible for the enforcement of most of the federal statutes that protect consumers from deceptive, unfair, or fraudulent practices. Many of these laws provide for both civil and criminal penalties. CPB also defends the federal government in suits that challenge the policies of consumer protection agencies. Each semester we offer a few unpaid internships for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year, who are interested in pursuing a career in the law. The responsibilities of an intern include a wide range of duties in support of our Branch’s attorneys and paralegals. Some intern projects include conducting factual research for the Branch’s cases, reviewing documents to identify evidence of fraudulent activity or victims of fraud, and summarizing transcripts and other court records. In addition, the Branch& #39;s attorneys give weekly brown-bag lunch presentations, so the interns can learn about particular cases or investigations. Interns at the Consumer Protection Branch are exposed to a variety of legal procedures, case investigative techniques, and agency interrelationships. As such, interns who work at CPB can expect to have an experience that is both productive and educational. We seek candidates who are in their junior or senior year of undergraduate academic study and can work part-time in the spring (20-24 hours/week minimum). EAST LANSING SEEKS STUDENTS FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENT COMMISSION: The City of East Lansing is seeking at-large applicants for its University Student Commission. Members of the University Student Commission propose programs and policies for consideration by the East Lansing City Council. The purpose of the commission is to improve relations between Michigan State University students and the community, establishing formal channels of communication between the two. Commissioners also review issues that have the potential to affect the interests of the university student population. The University Student Commission consists of 11 members who serve one-year terms. The commission meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from October through April at East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road. The first meeting of the new term will be held at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17. SUMMER QUANTITATIVE PROGRAM FOR RISING SENIORS: The Public Policy and International Affairs Program (PPIA) Junior Summer Institute (JSI) is a national fellowship program that prepares students for an advanced degree and ultimately for careers and influential roles serving the public good. The PPIA-JSI is a rigorous seven-week training offered each summer for rising college seniors, with coursework focused on quantitative, analytical, and communication skills.

From a highly selective and competitive national application pool, the composition of each PPIA-JSI class reflects academic, ethnic, regional, s*xual orientation, gender, religious belief, and age diversity, as well as the potential and demonstrated leadership necessary to positively impact the public sector. Core coursework for the PPIA-JSI reflects the multidisciplinary approach and quantitative focus for which Heinz College has become known. Additional components of the program include leadership development, site visits, and guest speakers.

Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College has hosted a PPIA-JSI since 2004, and we are committed to providing students with solid skills to prepare them for graduate study in public policy. In addition to our traditional policy-focused JSI track, Heinz College offers a first-of-its-kind Data Analytics JSI track for students who are passionate about using big data and analytics to address societal problems.
