Medical laboratory science student awarded Fulbright grant to research malaria Katie McGraw, a fourth-year Medical Laboratory Science student, was awarded a Fulbright grant to study the relationship between blood type and the severity of malaria illness in children in Malawi.

John Dolorito, who works and lives California, completed a Master of Science in Biomedical Laboratory Operations in April.

"I believe the program is very unique and capable of preparing someone who might aspire to work in a managerial position. It is design not just work in a hospital setting but also research areas as well."

Michigan Association of Laboratory Science Educators (MALSE) held their spring meeting at the University Club on May 17.

Dr. June Teisan, 2008 Michigan Teacher of the Year, gave a presentation on reaching and motivating K-12 students in science.

Angelina Au-Tran, who majored in both Biomedical Laboratory Science and Human Biology, was awarded the Leader in Action award by the Asian Pacific American Student Organization.

The award is given to a student who has demonstrated strong leadership skills and mobilized campus involvement. The award recognizes individuals who don’t just lead by example but also inspire others to get involved and make a difference.

Angel, who is also a Drew Scholar and a first generation college student, plans to pursue higher education in medicine and the lab.
