Do you take hygiene for granted? Some of us do because we can afford to buy soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toiletries and other necessities.

But there are people in Rhode Island who cannot afford these basic needs. This is where Amenity Aid comes in to help.

Join the East Providence/Seekonk Rotary Club on Monday, April 15th at noon to hear our Guest Speaker Mary Karalis, the Development & Communications Manager for Amenity Aid, tell us about the important work of RI’s first and only “hygiene bank” that distributes hygiene essentials to the vulnerable populations throughout the Ocean State.

Before entering the nonprofit sector, Mary spent 15 years in journalism working at Providence and Boston TV stations – most recently as “The Rhode Show” producer at WPRI-12.

Guest speaker is Michelle Drew, a certified Naturopathic Wellness & Anti-Aging Professional with a passion for helping people 40 and over to navigate the inevitable changes that happen with our bodies.

She wasn’t always on this path of natural wellness. As a matter of fact, she landed in the ICU in a medically induced coma for 3 weeks because she didn’t take good care of herself.

Her mess has become her message, and she is on a mission to help people to make better choices before they end up sick and feeling hopeless. It just takes one step at a time and she’s here to walk with you on your journey to living a healthy life and aging gracefully.

THIS JUST IN: Miss Rhode Island Earth 2022 will be joining us butterflies and pollinators to walk with our Rotary Club’s “Operation Pollination” group at the Riverside Memorial Day parade this Monday!!! Join us to be part of the fun as we pass out wildflower seeds to the spectators along the route to help save the butterflies 🦋 and our Earth’s environment.

Meet us at 9:15 am at the old Oldham School on Bullocks Point Avenue. Wear a colorful costume or wings (optional) and bring a bag or hand basket to put the seed packets in.

The Riverside Memorial Day parade is happening this Monday, May 29th and will kick off from the former Oldham Elementary School on Bullocks Point Avenue at 10:00 am. It's the same place where we have always met (NOT the new Oldham school on Bart Drive).

Join us as we gather on the school grounds between 9:00 am and 9:30 am to get ourselves situated with our place in the parade and be ready to go. Bring your pollinator costume, wings, anything colorful to wear and be ready for some fun. ALL AGES WELCOME!

We'll be walking behind a pickup truck that will be available should you need to sit/rest, store your pocketbook/keys, water bottle, etc. If you want to help us pass out seed packets, bring a colorful bag or handbasket to use.

You'll park your car at Oldham and can opt to walk back to it from the American Legion Post #10 on Willett Avenue where the parade ends, or pile into the (large) truck to get a ride back to your vehicle.

Congratulations!

Next Saturday, May 20th, join our Rotary Club at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery on the Wampanoag Trail as we replace flags on the veterans graves in conjunction with American Legion Riverside Post #10.

We'll be gathering at 9:00 am just inside the main entrance, and all ages are welcome to volunteer to help, as part of our Rotary Day of Service.

Seeking volunteers for our May 20th Day of Service project to place new flags on the veterans graves at Gates of Heaven Cemetery on the Wampanoag Trail.

Our Rotary Club is partnering with the American Legion Riverside Post 10 to replace the worn-out flags and unearth/clean up the medallion flag holders wherever we can find them.

Please arrive (rain or shine) at 9:00 am. We'll meet at the main entrance and then get to work, scattering throughout the cemetery to find graves that need a flag. We will supply gloves and flags. It's advisable to wear comfortable gardening clothes and sunscreen if sunny, and if you have a small trowel gardening tool, bring it as some of the medallions are covered with grass growth.

Earth Day clean-up is happening on Saturday, April 22 from 10-11:30 am. Meet us at the Veterans Memorial Parkway overlook parking lot at the Bike Path.

Gloves, trash bags and trash "pickers" will be provided, and the weather will be really nice.

We'll be gathering in the bar area at 5:30 pm so make plans now to join us. All proceeds to to our Rotary Club's Educational Trust which provides scholarships for high school students going on to higher ed.

This is a dead honey bee. The pollen on her legs is from dandelions. Her tongue is sticking out due to what killed her that was on the dandelions.
It’s spring, dandelions are the bees first food. This bee is dead from w**d killer spread on what we see as w**ds, but what nature sees as food. Please don’t spray for w**ds until you see the blackberries blooming. In this area, w**ds, flowers and fruit trees are bees only source of food until middle of June. There are FAR more w**ds than flowers or fruit trees, so it's their only food source. No bees, no food crops for us and we all starve.
