For the love of our Church and our country, we celebrate nearly 125 years of our Patriotic Degree…
Michael McCusker, who has served as supreme master since 2023, reflects in a recent interview on military service, patriotism and the mission of the Fourth Degree, which was established nearly 125 years ago. “The Knights formed the Patriotic Degree at the turn of the century to show that we are Catholic, but also good citizens,” Supreme Master McCusker explained. “Now, more than ever, it is important to demonstrate that we love our faith, but we also love our country.”

Blessed Michael, pray for us!
“God, source of all freedom, this day is bright with the memory of those that declared that life and liberty are your gift to every human being. Help us to continue a good work begun long ago. Make our vision clear and our will strong; that only in human solidarity will we find liberty, and justice only in the honor that belongs to every life on earth. Turn our hearts towards the family of nations: to understand the ways of others, to offer friendship, and to find safety in the common good for all.”

If anyone has one to offer before she comes in for our parenting group next Thursday, please message us.

Did you know?…
During the papacy of John Paul II, the foundational steps for Father Michael J. McGivney’s canonization cause occurred, from its opening in 1997 to the submission of the Positio, emphasizing his spiritual character and holiness of life, in 2000. As part of this process, the reputation of Father McGivney became better known and devotion to him as well. 20 years ago, Pope John Paul ll bestowed an apostolic blessing on all Knights during an audience with the Knights of Columbus Board of Directors, and proclaimed: “In fidelity to the vision of Father McGivney, may you continue to seek new ways of being a leaven of the Gospel in the world and a spiritual force for the renewal of the Church in holiness, unity, and truth.”
150 years ago this month, Michael McGivney enrolled at St. Mary's Seminary & University in Baltimore. Michael had been preparing for final exams at the College of Sainte-Marie in Montreal earlier that summer when his father died at the age of 48. He was called home and experienced firsthand the financial hardships faced at the loss of a family’s breadwinner. When the bishop of Hartford, Francis McFarland, learned that the completion of Michael’s seminary education was in peril, Bishop McFarland arranged for the diocese to provide the tuition, with the condition that Michael attend the Sulpician run Saint Mary’s Seminary in preparation for pastoral ministry.
