Lessons and Carols Christmas Eve Service: Join us next Friday (December 24) for a traditional service of worship comprised of several “lessons” (readings) from God’s Word followed by corresponding hymns of praise to our God. We will close the time together by candlelight as we celebrate the “Light of the world” come for us! NOTE: This year’s service will be earlier than usual: we will gather in the gym at ECoG from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
In 1 John 2:7–14 we are shown that walking in the light looks like loving the family of God — even when it’s difficult. This requires a supernatural kind of love because we are all messy. Listen below as Pastor Nate exhorts us to let the gospel ties that bind us show their strength to a world walking in darkness. (bit.ly/3FzUCfX)
Listen here (bit.ly/3D8OGbU) to Pastor Nate’s sermon “The Advocate” (based on 1 John 2:1-6). “Christ continues to intercede on our behalf in heaven because we continue to fail here on earth. He does not forgive us through his work on the cross and then hope we make it the rest of the way. … Whereas the doctrine of the atonement reassures us with what Christ has done in the past, the doctrine of his intercession reassures us with what he is doing in the present.” (Dane Ortlund, Gentle and Lowly)
We invite everyone to join us in worshiping together this morning as we joyfully sing praises to our great and glorious King who rules over the whole world! 9:30am in person or via livestream. Service information can be found here: bit.ly/3mlG3nH
Prepare your hearts for worship this Lord’s Day (October 3) by meditating on the scriptures and hymns in our Order of Worship (found here: bit.ly/3utA0kw). Pastor Nate continues his series on the book of 1st John. This Sunday his sermon message “The Advocate” is based on 1 John 2:1–6.
Listen here (bit.ly/3obptcq) to Pastor Nate’s sermon “The Light” (based on 1 John 1:5-10). Be blinded by the brightness of God: His holiness, flawless perfection, and moral purity. See your own struggle with darkness and sin. But then turn to Jesus and rest in Him — the storehouse of mercy — whose light heals, comforts, and guides.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1st John 1:7)

“And Can It Be” was written by Charles Wesley in 1738 in response to his conversion to belief in Christ. It explores both the contrast between the glory of heaven that Christ came from and the suffering He endured on earth, and the mystery of the love that motivated Him to make that journey. It reminds us how God brings us to salvation in language that harks back to Peter’s experience in Acts 12:6-11, where God sent an angel to open the prison doors and loose Peter’s chains. It ends on a jubilant celebration of our new state in Christ and the privilege of communion with God that we enjoy.
Prepare your hearts for worship this Lord’s Day (September 26) by meditating on the scriptures and hymns in our Order of Worship (found here: bit.ly/3kFJDte). Pastor Nate continues his new sermon series on the book of 1st John. This Sunday his sermon message “The Light” is based on 1 John 1:5–10.
This week Pastor Nate started a new sermon series on 1st John. In this letter John speaks against the voices of the world, calling the church back to right doctrine and to gospel-fueled obedience and love. Listen here (bit.ly/3zoSZxh) to the first sermon in this series: “The Witness” (based on 1 John 1:1-4). Pastor Nate explains how true life is found only in the person of Jesus, as well as how joy flows through fellowship (koinonia) — the kind of joy that gives lasting stability to the chaos on the surface of things.
Please join us in worshiping together this morning as we catch a glimpse of the divine glory of Christ! 9:30am in person or via livestream. Service information can be found here: bit.ly/2XtxYnP
“Today, we see something of God’s glory by faith as we trust in Jesus. One day we will see this glory in its fullest sense, insofar as we are able as creatures to see His glory, for on that day we will view Christ by sight and not merely by faith. But that does not mean we get no true glimpse of God’s glory now as we look to Christ. And as we grow in our knowledge of Christ, we will also grow in our longing to see the fullness of the divine glory.” (~Ligonier Ministries)

Quiet your hearts tonight, watch the video below, and reflect on the words of this song as you prepare to worship with wholehearted devotion tomorrow:
“Give me one pure and holy passion.
Give me one magnificent obsession.
Jesus, give me one glorious ambition for my life,
to know and follow hard after You.
To know and follow hard after You,
to grow as Your disciple in the truth.
This world is empty, pale, and poor
compared to knowing You, my Lord.
Lead me on and I will run after You.”
