“To all that come to this happy place, welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America... with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”- Walt Disney's opening day speech on July 17, 1955, during the grand opening ceremony of Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

On July 17th, it will be 69 years since the opening of Disneyland in Anaheim, California!

Check out the online resources, books, and DVDs we have on display to celebrate this important and traditional American icon! ✨🏰✨

We also want to recognize the amazing Mickey Mouse marker illustration done by one of our patrons!

Congratulations to our OER and Scholarly Communications Librarian and Assistant Professor Joe Kohlburn--and the rest of the Missouri Library Association Intellectual Freedom Committee (MLA-IFC)--for being awarded the 2023 Downs Intellectual Freedom Award at this year's American Library Association (ALA) conference in San Diego!

The Robert B. Downs Intellectual Freedom Award is given annually by the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and is co-sponsored by Sage, a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources. This award was established in 1969 by the iSchool’s faculty to honor Dean Emeritus Robert B. Downs, a champion of intellectual freedom, on the occasion of his twenty-fifth anniversary as director of the School. This award recognizes years of collective work creating and organizing workshops, advocating in media and public hearings, and organizing for the freedom to read.

The Missouri Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee (MLA-IFC) was given the Downs Intellectual Freedom Award for its educational programming and advocacy work in support of the right to read.
