The El Paso Sergeants Major Association
The Association conducts fund raisers in support of college scholarships for kids of service members.
On June 15, 2024, the El Paso Sergeants Major Association held their annual scholarship presentation breakfast. Ms. Ana Victoria Bustos received a $3000 scholarship as the 1st place winner, and Mr. Massimo Alarcon received a $2000 scholarship as the 2nd place winner. The association also awarded a new life membership to Alonzo Alarcon, Massimo's father.
We are grateful for all donations to our scholarship fund and support through ticket sales. After 33 years, the El Paso Sergeants Major Association remains strong.

Today, my heart is heavy as I share the news of the passing of a friend, Orbie L. Stewart. Words cannot express the depth of my sorrow or my immense gratitude for having had Orbie as a friend.
Though Orbie is no longer with us in this world, his spirit and the memories of shared conversations and mentorship will live on forever in my heart. To all who knew him, let's hold onto the joy he into our lives.
Rest in peace, Soldier. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

The El Paso Community has suffered a great loss with the recent passing of Dr. Orbie Stewart, SGM Retired, a distinguished and beloved figure. Orbie was a dedicated mentor and advocate for all, his contributions touched many lives. He was a revered member of Alpha Phi Alpha, NAACP El Paso Branch, and the Sergeant Major Association. His commitment extended beyond these roles, as he also served as a counselor at the Fort Bliss Education Center and a professor at Park University, imparting knowledge and wisdom to countless students. Furthermore, he was an active member of the USASMA Chapel, where his presence and guidance were deeply valued. Orbie Stewart’s legacy of service and dedication will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege knowing him. 🙏🙏

If you were not able to make it this morning you missed a great event. We sang happy birthday to one of our active lifetime members Mike Metzger, not sure how old he is, not sure anyone knows how old Mike is! We welcomed George Elsaesser as one of our newest life members. George is also the director of the Armed Forces YMCA. We raffled off three great prizes. The $150 visa gift card went to Perla Bermudez, the Vivo Laptop went to Mr. Dale Thompson and the 65”flatscreen went to Mr. Forrest Gillespie. We announced our two 2024 scholarship award recipients. Ms Victoria Bustos was our first place winner. Victoria will graduate from Silva Health Magnet High School and will attend the University of Arizona. 2nd place went to Massimo Alarcon from El Paso High School who will attend the University of Texas - Permian Basin. The scholarship awards ceremony is scheduled for 15 June, location to be determined. We want to thank everyone for their support as the Association moves toward 33 years of existence and we are still going strong. Our best years are clearly in front of us. We serve yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Join us at the El Paso Museum of Art this Thursday, May 16th from 5pm to 8pm to meet staff from all of our programs.
The community will get the opportunity to learn about ways to participate in programs and projects sponsored by the Museums and Cultural Affairs Department.
The El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of History and El Paso Museum of Archeology will be in attendance as well as staff from the new Mexican American Cultural Center.
The Public Art Program and all Cultural Programs will also be on site to guide you through the opportunities provided by them.
MCAD provides a variety of grant programs, paid gigs and, teaching artist opportunities. Since 2007, MCAD has paid over $5 million to local artists and arts and cultural organizations through the Cultural Funding Program.

Had a great turn out today at our General Membership Meeting located at the USASMA Chapel Annex. The pictures below are Ms Jennifer Pratt briefing and setting us up for our latest fundraiser (Vertical Raise), more to follow. Also we had the honor of recognizing two of our newer life members, CSM retired Scott Schomaker and CSM Gina Aceves who is the BN CSM for the 123d BSB on Fort Bliss.
