We promote healthy/active transportation across the Paso del Norte region. Let us show you how easy and fun walking & biking can be.
We work to improve conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians in the Paso del Norte region. Though we come from many different fields and backgrounds, our members share one thing in common: a desire to give a voice to the voiceless and to create alternative transportation options that will make our region the envy of the world.
Our friends in Velo Cruces would like us to chime in
This is an important planning effort to make roads safer for all users, with an emphasis for bicyclists and pedestrians. The study is for all areas outside Las Cruces city limits and the interstate roads. Our Velo Paso friends should also take a look as many of them ride inside Doña Ana county. The link to the project website is https://engage.bhinc.com/DACCRSAP and the link to the interactive map is https://engage.bhinc.com/DACCRSAP/interactive-map This planning effort can lead to additional implementation grants to make a safer bicycling community.

Whether it's for commuting or exploring, bikes are an important element of American transportation. Bicycle Safety Month reminds us that safe bike infrastructure boosts local economies and connects neighborhoods.
Which would you prefer:
Safe, protected bike lanes, or a pledge from drivers not to hit cyclists?
City Proposes 'Cyclist Oath' in Bid to Eliminate Bike Lanes The concept behind the "Cyclist Oath" is simple yet provocative: by asking drivers to take a solemn vow to avoid collisions with cyclists.
Is your bicycle built for two? ❤️❤️
..cause seriously, the law says if you're both gonna ride on that bike together, each rider has to have their own saddle. It's all about being safe, legal and having fun out there. 😊 ☺️
"A new study reveals how unconscious bias leads us to neglect negative externalities of driving. You may call it ‘car brain,’ but this research team calls it ‘motonormativity.’"
Cars are rewiring our brains to ignore all the bad stuff about driving We tend to turn a blind eye to the social ills of driving.
It turns out slower speeds are good for our safety, our air quality, the climate and our health -
In a win for the climate, urban speed limits are dropping » Yale Climate Connections Slower traffic speeds protect pedestrians and cyclists, helping more people access climate-friendly transportation.
Back in the 1960's, when freeways were being built all across the nation, they were seen as progress and economic development...
Problem is, they came at a high cost to the mostly minority neighborhoods they were built through - and the costs to these communities are still racking up.
A New Orleans neighborhood confronts the racist legacy of a toxic stretch of highway There's a new federal fund to address highways that cut through minority and low-income neighborhoods, like New Orleans' Claiborne Expressway. But should the noisy highway be upgraded, or moved away?
You can do everything right, but...
It's time for better infrastructure, and better driver behavior that starts with paying attention to vulnerable road users to end serious and fatal traffic crashes. And that includes lower speeds and Complete Streets that provide safe comfortable routes for people to walk, bike, roll and to access transit.
Opinion: Reflective Gear Won’t Stop Cyclists from Being Hit by Cars – Better Bike Lanes Will Joseph Crandall was hit while biking despite "doing all the right things." The solution to better cycling safety isn't more hi-viz gear.
Congress could make vehicles more dangerous for pedestrians–tell them NO!
Congress could make vehicles more dangerous for pedestrians–tell them NO! Congress is voting TOMORROW on stopping requirements for live-saving technologies in vehicles. Over 42,000 people were killed last year in traffic crashes and some members of Congress want to do nothing to save lives. Tell them we need safer vehicles: https://p2a.co/gf76rlj

We're constantly told we have to address "congestion" on our roads before we can address other issues (like bike lanes, sidewalks, or ending traffic violence), but as the author notes, "It is irresponsible for transportation agencies to expand highways in ways that contradict other community goals." including our health, safety, and ability to walk, bike or take transit...
A Serious Critique of Congestion Costs and Induced Vehicle Travel Impacts Some highway advocates continue to claim that roadway expansions are justified to reduce traffic congestion. That's not what the research shows. It's time to stop obsessing over congestion and instead strive for efficient accessibility. 6 minute read March 14, 2023, 7:00 AM PDT By Todd Litman Mr Doo...

"It’s like putting a lid on the freeway. So, the freeway will be allowed to continue moving east and west traffic underneath. But then, they have space on top to do something really cool and really transformational"
What would be really be transformational is not building or widening more roads just for cars, or promoting infrastructure that deflects from the harm that will come from widening I-10. We should be talking about making it easier and safer for people to walk, roll or take transit everywhere in El Paso. Will the deck park do that? Nope.
If you can, please attend these meetings to tell the powers that be is the deck park might be cool, but we really need safer streets - all across the city - that everyone, of all ages and abilities can use
Talk of ‘Deck Plaza’ in Downtown raise questions EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Deck Plaza Project would connect the Downtown area with neighborhoods across the interstate by also providing additional space above the highway to add amenities. …

"Cities should not just build green transport but actively dismantle car infrastructure" Instead of desperately trying to reduce road congestion in the short term, politicians should be using traffic as a tool for making urban transport more sustainable, writes Phineas Harper.
You can move lots of vehicles with freeways, but you can move lots more people when you design your community for people.
“A bucket is a useful tool, but at lunch it’s no substitute for a spoon.
Efforts to build cities around cars fail because like buckets, cars are useful tools that can’t serve all needs well.
The pursuit of drive-everywhere cities serves no one well—not even drivers.” - Peter Norton, author of Fighting Traffic
