Spinal decompression therapy is a type of motorized traction that may help relieve back pain. Spinal decompression works by gently stretching the spine. That changes the force and position of the spine. This change takes pressure off the spinal disks -- gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine -- by creating negative pressure in the disc. As a result, bulging or herniated disks may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This will alleviate pain and restore normal movement of the spine. Interested? Call Today 915-593-2273, and take a step towards better quality of life!
Jobs that require sitting for prolonged hours, can cause severe compression of the weight bearing joints of the spine and hips. Sitting for long hours can shorten and weaken the muscles of the legs and spine. This will lead to low back and leg pain and if left untreated can lead to arthritis of the spine and hips.
This is why at Axis Chiropractic, our main goal is to decompress and release the weight bearing joints of the spine and hips. We achieve this with various therapeutic decompression methods. As well, we will lengthen the muscles of the spine and legs with therapeutic massage and stretching.
Here is a video that gives the first set of stretches that we teach to decompress the spine and hips and lengthen the muscles. If you have pain performing these stretches, then you most likely already have severe compression of the spine. We recommend you receive treatment ASAP to decompress the spine, this will alleviate pain and could prevent an early onset of arthritis.

Here are some tips to help with gardening!
If you are tight, stiff or in pain, do not work on the yard until you have been adjusted, massaged and started stretching.
1. Wear loose fitting clothing. Warm up with a walk around the yard, then do stretches for the neck, shoulders, arms, lower back, hips, thigh and calves before starting your tasks.
2. Wet the soil, let it absorb well, this will loosen the ground. Use a pointy shovel with a good foot deck to "shovel out the weeds", avoid hand pulling as many weeds as possible.
3. If you need to work close to the ground, kneel onto a folded up cloth (or wear knee pads) to cushion the knees and put your upper body closer to the ground. To stand up, step up one leg at a time. Avoid squatting or bending forward at the waist when working on the ground.
4. Make sure to service your lawn mower and other tools, so that you don't have to pull start too hard or often. It may be better to have electric tools if a pull start is painful.
5. Use good form when lifting and use a dolly or a cart to move heavy items.
These are just a few tips, hope they help!
Why Axis Chiropractic?
I was taught to view the misalignments of the spine on the XYZ axis for optimal accuracy of alignment. I also quickly realized that that for optimal recovery from spinal and joint injuries, it requires an axis approach as well .
X axis: chiropractic alignment and decompression to take pressure off the nerve and balance the joint (articulations)
Y axis: manual therapies for release of painful muscle trigger points
Z axis: therapeutic exercise to restore flexibility, agility and strength to the injured area and to learn prevention
That is why I chose the name, Axis Chiropractic. If we can be of service, please call 915-593-2273 to take a step towards better health! Dr. Jose I. Muniz, D.C.
Here is a list of the techniques I use everyday to help my patients:
Diversified Technique - This is a widely used type of chiropractic manipulation/ adjustment that includes most of the procedures taught at chiropractic schools. This technique is the most commonly used of all chiropractic techniques and is the one probably most familiar to patients. The Diversified manipulation/adjustment entails a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust that usually results in a cavitation of a joint (quick, shallow thrusts that cause the popping noise often associated with a chiropractic manipulation/adjustment).
Extremity Manipulating/Adjusting - This is the application of chiropractic manipulation/adjustment to joints other than those of the spine, i.e., shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand/finger, hip, knee, ankle/foot/toe. Examples of conditions treated by extremity manipulation/ adjustment: carpal tunnel syndrome, gait, or posture-related problems.
Activator Method - This is a hand-held, spring-loaded instrument-based manipulation/adjustment protocol. Instead of the manipulating/adjusting forces being delivered by hand, force is generated with the small appliance that delivers a lighter, but quicker, thrust than can be delivered by hand. Activator can be used as a primary treatment protocol for all patients or a selective method for patients who may not desire manual manipulation/adjustment or where manual manipulation/adjustment may be contraindicated.
Gonstead Technique - This is a specific chiropractic technique that is distinct from Diversified technique because it focuses primarily on P-A adjusting, rather than on rotary adjusting, but is still done by hand, and usually results in joint cavitation. X-ray analysis, palpation, and temperature gradient studies may be used in clinical decision-making (i.e., what segment(s) to manipulate/adjust).
Cox Flexion/Distraction - This is a specific chiropractic technique that uses mechanical and hands-on manipulation/ adjustment utilizing a special table where the spine is tractioned and flexed forward. This technique is primarily utilized to treat cervical and lumbar disc herniations, non-disc spinal disorders, and to increase mobility of spinal joints.
Thompson Technique - This is a specific chiropractic method and is a variation of the Diversified technique that uses a special table with several segments called drop pieces. These segments can be cocked up a fraction of an inch, so when the thrust is delivered, the table will drop this fraction of an inch. The object of the drop is to distract (open) the joint during the adjustment. The drop pieces assists the thrust, while minimizing the force required for the adjustment. Cavitation of the joint may or may not occur.
Sacro Occipital Technique - This is a specific chiropractic technique that uses triangular-shaped blocks usually placed under the pelvis of the prone patient to treat problems identified in the low back. Low force, slow pressure types of manipulations/adjustments may be used to address joint problems identified in the skull.SOT may be used as an exclusive treatment technique or as an adjunct method of patient management.
Applied Kinesiology - This is an approach to chiropractic treatment in which several specific procedures may be combined. Diversified manipulative/ adjusting techniques may be used with nutritional interventions, together with light massage of various points referred to as neurolymphatic and neurovascular points. Clinical decision-making is often based on testing and evaluating muscle strength.
Elbow pain may arise from many conditions including, injury, repetitive use, or even neck and upper pack issues that create stress or damage in the nerves that go to the arm. Although elbow pain may arise from inflammation of the soft tissue around the elbow on either side, most commonly pain down the arm arises more frequently due to neck and upper back dysfunction.
Spinal manipulations for the neck has been successful in treating radiating pain or pain that travels into to the arm. Also, by decreasing pressure on the nerve roots that come from the spine and through the vertebrae, increases muscle function, strength, and tone; increasing overall health in the arm.If you are suffering from elbow pain give us a call 915-593-2273
The shoulder goes through a lot in a day. It is comprised of an intricate network of ligaments and muscles, with the rotator cuff taking the brunt of much of the movement and exertion.
Not only is the shoulder the most flexible joint in the human body, it is also one of the most unstable. Among athletes, the shoulder injuries are quite common; the shoulder sustains more injuries that almost all other parts of the body.If you are suffering from shoulder pain give us a call 915-593-2273.
If you are suffering from knee pain, what can you do to ease the discomfort and bring a full range of movement back to your knee joint? One effective way of treatment for knee pain is to go for chiropractic treatment. Chiropractic treatment for knee pain makes use of a number of different techniques in order to help ease pain and bring the knee joint back to its normal level of function. If knee pain is limiting your movements or you are having problems playing sport or relaxing, give us a call today 915-593-2273
