Welcome Dr. William Campillo Terrazas, Dr. Nicole Dominguez Davis & Dr. Carina Salazar to the SOP family!
Dr. Campillo Terrazas joins UTEP with a research background at the intersection of pharmacy and public health. He is dedicated to addressing health inequities, firmly believing that pharmacists play a crucial role in the healthcare system by enhancing health outcomes for diverse populations through targeted public health interventions. Before joining UTEP, Dr. Campillo Terrazas completed a PGY1/PGY2 pharmacotherapy residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a Master of Public Health from UTEP, as well as dual bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and foreign languages (Spanish) from the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Davis obtained a Doctor of Pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin in 2017. In 2018, Dr. Davis completed a residency at Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas where she obtained experience in internal medicine and oncology. Upon completing her training, Dr. Davis returned to El Paso and worked for Texas Health and Human Services, becoming a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist in 2019.
Dr. Salazar received her PharmD from the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy in San Antonio, TX and Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UTEP. Go Miners! Dr. Salazar completed a PGY-1 residency with UTEP School of Pharmacy in collaboration with Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe, Inc. where she expanded pharmacy access to provide continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) services with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation Incentive Grant. Her interests include HIV care, diabetes, public health, and teaching.

4th year pharmacy student, Diana Lazare, has combined her passion for pharmacy and space to produce the study ‘Expiration analysis of the International Space Station formulary for exploration mission planning’, published by NPJ Microgravity.
Research shows that the medications supplied in the International Space Station have limited shelf-life data available. Of these medications, over half may expire within 36 months which is the planned duration of an expedition to and from Mars. Learn more about what this could mean for the future of pharmacy and space here! https://www.nature.com/articles/s41526-024-00414-3

As part of our Study Away Program, we had ten students who traveled internationally to Madrid & Seville, Spain to experience a complete cultural and pharmacy practice immersion. During this trip, students were able to visit community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies (Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Maranon & Hospital Universitario de Valme), a pharmacy distribution center (Bidafarma), a reverse distribution center (CEDiFA), colleges of pharmacy in both cities (Facultad de Farmacia de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y de la Universidad de Sevilla), the board of pharmacy in Seville (Colegio Oficial de Farmacéuticos de Sevilla) and a pharmaceutical lab (BotanicaPharma). Gracias a todas las personas que contribuyeron a la visita y por siempre recibirnos con una cálida hospitalidad. ¡Qué guay!
