Join me for a District 8 Community Meeting on Monday, July 29th, at 5:30 PM. It’s just me this time, and I want to discuss the City's budget for fiscal year 2025. The City Manager has proposed his initial budget, and the City Council will adopt a final version of the budget in August, so I want to hear from you first. The meeting will take place in the Main Conference Room at City Hall, located at 300 N. Campbell Street.

Remember, free parking is available in the City Hall parking lot across Campbell Street after 5:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you there!

Looking for a Lil' All-Star Skills Challenge? Armijo Recreation Center is having an event for young players ages 3 to 4 on Thursday, July 18 starting at 6 p.m. at Armijo Park, 700 E 7th Ave.

Participants will compete in various skill challenges, including a 50m dash, obstacle course, hurdles, soccer kick, and more!

Registration is now open through Wednesday, July 17 at any recreation center. The cost is $5 per participant with limited space available.

Opinion: Ask El Paso voters if they still want a Downtown venue - El Paso Matters City Council is considering whether to ask voters to reverse a bond issue approved in 2012 to build a multipurpose entertainment facility in Downtown El Paso.

Next week, the City Council will take a first step toward the adoption of the budget for Fiscal Year 2025, which begins September 1, 2024. The City’s Budget Workshops mark the City Manager and his staff’s first presentation of the proposed budget for the upcoming year, giving the City Council and the public the ability to weigh in and ask initial questions. The budget will continue to be developed until its eventual adoption by the City Council in August.

The Budget Workshops will be held at City Hall on July 8, 9, and 10, beginning each day at 9:00 AM. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch online on the City of El Paso YouTube page or on City TV.

Congratulations to the El Paso Fire Department on the groundbreaking of the EPFD Special Operations Division at 222 S. Campbell Street. I was fortunate to be invited to attend and speak on the benefits this facility will offer District 8 and the entire city. The state-of-the-art new station will provide a sanctuary for the firefighters that work tirelessly for our community. This facility will consolidate Fire Stations 1, 9, and 11 into a unified location, offering a significant addition to Downtown El Paso.
