Happy Birthday to all our Soldiers and Veterans of the United States Army as they celebrate 249 years of service. AND Happy Flag Day who we all carry with us where ever we go.
Today's flag status for Monday, May 27th, 2024 - Memorial Day. Flags should be raised and lowered to hall staff at sunrise then raised to full staff at noon.
Join us as we honor the memory of our fallen heroes 😔. Because of their ultimate sacrifice, we have the opportunity to enjoy freedom and family time this weekend 💕.
To commemorate May 24, 2024 - National Poppy Day, we at American Legion Auxiliary 58 begin this solemn day with this presentation of "In Flanders Fields".
We are looking for more youth to join our Junior Auxiliary. Come and join the fun as our Junior Auxiliary work together in supporting our Veterans, families, and youth with community service and volunteerism, along with fun activities. If you have any questions, please contact our Auxiliary President Armida Thomas.

WARNO WARNO WARNO!!! - Good morning Riders!
We received some information regarding the passing of this veteran. He is Jose Pabon, an El Pasoan who passed in California, but is being transported back to his hometown of El Paso. We are requesting that if you would spread the word, that if possible, you would be ready to help our Legion Riders es**rt this warrior to his final resting place (Fort Bliss National Cemetery). Post 58, will have a celebration of life event afterwards.
We are still waiting word on when he is be transported, so please be ready and also be ready to send word to others wishing to participate. We'll be operating this as a QRF (quick-reaction force) for those of you still familiar with military lingo.

Today, May 1st, we celebrate National Silver Star Service Banner Day. This day honors the sacrifices of the U.S. military personnel as well as those awarded with the Silver Star.
Today we celebrate the last day of April and the Month of the Military Child. Today is National Military Brats Day - lets give all of our Military Brats (both young and old) a huge shout out!

Are you ready for Monday? Here's your Safety Brief!
We at Post 58 want all of our members and their families to enjoy this heavenly event however we want to all to practice good safety measures.
1. Please use proper solar viewers aka "eclipse glasses" or a pinhole projector when viewing. DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY at the Sun before, during, or after (even during cloudy settings). A mere 6 seconds of exposure can damage the lens and optic nerves in your eyes.
2. Do not try to use traditional cameras, camera phones, or binoculars unless you have the proper filters for those lens. Binoculars are dangerous as they will act as magnifying glasses and WILL BURN YOUR EYES.
3. Exercise good skin care safety. Use sunscreen.
4. Stay hydrated.

Remembering and Honor those who endured so much both abroad and at home. There are never enough "Thank You for your service" that could be offered to make up the time you endured when you returned home or for those brothers you had lost. Today is for you!

We remember on this day, those who were honored with valor. And may their spouses and children be cared for today and tomorrow.
Today, March 25th is designated as National Medal of Honor Day. Today our nation recognizes those individuals who were recognized for Valor in the face of danger.
The following recipients of the Medal of Honor from El Paso.
•1LT William Deane Hawkins - USMC of El Paso. Graduated from El Paso High School and attended Texas College of Mines (UTEP). In WWII, 1LT Hawkins was awarded the MOH when he led attacks on pill boxes and installations for two days during the Battle of Tarawa. He was killed in action on November 21, 1943 - he was 29 years old.
•SSG Ambrosio Guillen - USMC of El Paso. Graduated from Bowie High School and later enlisted when he was 18. In the Korean War, SSG Guillen was awarded the MOH when he defeated a enemy troops while exposing himself to enemy fire in order to clear enemy firing positions. Injured and refusing medical attention, he directed his platoon to engage the enemy overall being successful. SSG Guillen succumbed to his wounds. He died on July 25, 1953 - he was 23 years old. He is interred at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
•COL Joseph Rodriguez - USA, Retired in El Paso. COL Rodriguez was awarded the MOH when he was a PFC during the Korean War. Rodriguez then took it upon himself to destroy these emplacements. He charged the emplacements and hurled grenades into each of the foxholes. Rodriguez destroyed the emplacements and killed 15 enemy soldiers. For his actions, he was promoted to SGT and recommended for the MOH. COL Rodriguez passed away in El Paso on November 1, 2005 at the age of 76.
•SFC Paul Ray Smith - USA was born in El Paso on September 24, 1969. SFC Smith was the first soldier to be awarded the MOH for Operation Iraqi Freedom for his actions in 2003. While in Iraq, SFC Smith position was attacked by a company-sized enemy element. Smith mounted .50 cal machine gun where (exposed) engaged enemy forces becoming mortally wounded during his fight. Ultimately, thanks impart to SFC Smith, coalition forces were able to defeat enemy forces and regain control of the Baghdad International Airport. SFC was killed in action on April 4, 2003 - he was 33 years old.
