PLEASE SHARE: Most people don’t know that Texas teachers are not able to draw their spouse’s Social Security or all of their own just because they taught in Texas. Also, they don’t know that when a teacher retires, they do not receive a cost-of-living raise like those who draw Social Security, so this is important for us. Please vote. Retired Texas teachers could use your help!! This is important! Please share.

*****Texas Voters: In November, there will be 14 propositions on the ballot. PROP 9 authorizes a cost-of-living (COLA) adjustment for some of the Teacher Retirement System annuitants. The monies to provide for this small COLA will NOT COST THE TAXPAYERS ANYTHING! The funds are ALREADY IN the TRS Account. We just need everyone in Texas to vote YES in order for the legislature to release the funds. The annuitants who will receive these funds have not had ANY increase in 20+ years.
Please spread the word to all your family and friends. Tell them to VOTE YES for Prop 9!!! Retired teachers deserve this Cost-of-living adjustment!!!

More Educators Are Finding Real Relief From Their Student Loan Debt See how much NEA members are shaving off their student loan debt repayments by using the NEA Student Debt Navigator.

Courtney Lopez is in her 19th year as a classroom teacher and instructional specialist in Denton ISD. Her father's journey to gaining an education as a first-generation American, instilled in her the value of education as the great equalizer. As an educator, her goal is to continue to be actively involved in education advocacy and promoting common-sense legislation that supports Texas public schools and all students.

School leaders say state is shortchanging them money and vouchers will make it worse School districts are starting to talk tough about the lack of money they’re getting from the state of Texas.

In what should be a surprise to no one, teacher pay gets a failing grade in this country. Teacher pay is at its lowest level since 1960 and the pay penalty got worse in 2022. On average, last year teachers made 26.4% less than their peers with similar education. In fact, since 1996, the pay penalty for teachers—the gap between the weekly wages of teachers and college graduates working in other professions has more than quadrupled from 6.1 % to 26.4%.
