Learn more about this hard working chapter volunteer:
Colleen graduated from Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC), with an associate degree in the applied science of massage therapy. She later became an adjunct instructor at IVCC teaching ethics, business, clinical massage, advanced clinical massage, and capstone seminar in the massage therapy program. Currently, Colleen practices massage, full time in her private practice located in Ottawa, Il and is a Community Care Partner with the VA. She is an eight-year volunteer with the AMTA-Il chapter, serving on the Government Relations committee, Membership Committee, and as Membership Chair. She was appointed in April to serve as the chapter’s president. In her spare time, Colleen enjoys spending time with her grandkids, attending concerts, and volunteering for Find a Grave.

It’s an even numbered year. So, you know what that means---RENEWAL! Be sure you have updated your contact information with IDFPR. They will be sending out notices in October to renew by December 31, 2024.
Here’s what you’ll need for renewal. If this is your first renewal, you do not need CEs. Otherwise as of January 2024, the requirements are:
* 24 CE (continuing education) hours total
Below are 3 REQUIRED CEs:
* 2 CE Ethics (if NCBTMB certified you will need 3 CE)
* 1 CE Sexual Harassment Prevention
Effective January 1, 2024 HB 2756 went into law. This law requires massage therapists to acquire 1 CE each renewal cycle on domestic violence and sexual assault awareness.
This hour is in addition to the existing 24-hour requirement so massage therapists will have to have a total of 25 hours of CE FOR RENEWAL in 2026. THIS CE IS NOT NEEDED FOR 2024 RENEWAL
Since the pandemic, all CE can be live, on-line, self-study or webinar; there is not a restriction on in-person hours.
The domestic violence and sexual assault awareness courses can be taken by any approved provider and there are specific qualifications needed to be an instructor for

AMTA-IL is offering these classes in a webinar, along with the sexual harassment awareness course, in October, November and December of 2024, just in time for the
renewal. You can register for these courses by going on our website
il.wp.amtamassage.org Click on the Education button (you don’t need to click on the drop down, just the Education button). Registration is open for October. November and December classes will open closer to the event.

On behalf of the massage therapy profession, AMTA has taken action and filed a federal lawsuit challenging a new Department of Education rule eliminating the longstanding “150% rule” for federal financial aid for massage therapy students and schools.
We encourage all school owners and administrators to email us at [email protected] and share how your school and students would be negatively impacted if the new rule goes into effect.
