Evansville Vocations
We promote and support Catholic Vocations in southwest Indiana
Some 80 teenage guys joined for the first Savio Night at the House for 2024. For those who haven't been inside the Father Deydier House, it is the former rectory at Sacred Heart Church in Evansville. There has been a *lot* of renovation to the *large* building, and it's perfect for hosting faith formation and community for our young men. This Sunday's time for sports and fellowship was followed by faith formation in the old School building and then Night Prayer in Church (neither pictured here, but they happened!)
Siena kicked off the new year with a night all about the renewal of reverence!
Thank you to our speaker, Amelia Reising, for coming to share her journey of reverence. The girls ended the night by breaking into groups and acting out skits to show what not to do during Mass. Congratulations to our winning team!

Join us tomorrow night to celebrate Our Blessed Mother’s Feast day and the New Year!
Our diocesan first-year seminarians are wrapping up our five-day, 2400-mile North American Martyrs pilgrimage today. Here’s a look at the second half of the week.
The Cathedral of Montreal, Canada, which is ~1/3 replica of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The Church here wanted to make her allegiance to the Holy Father clear in this New World.
The granite tomb of St. André Bessette inside the (largest) church honoring St. Joseph in the world.
Praying at the side chapel of the Basilica of Notre-Dame in Montreal, one of the most beautiful churches any of us have visited.
A stop at Auriesville, New York to visit the Shrine dedicated to the North American Martyrs — Sts. Isaac Jogues, Rene Gupil and Jean de Lalande — who lived and died on these grounds, and honoring St. Kateri Tekakwitha who was born here.
Staying overnight at Mount Saint Mary in Emmitsburg and praying in the chapel were Bl. Stanley Rother, martyr, went to seminary and where Servant of God Bishop Simon Bruté lived and taught for years.
A stop to pray at the tomb of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the spiritual directee of Bishop Bruté, and the inspiration to many vocations associated with the Daughters of Charity living in our Diocese.
What a blessed few days!
Today, the first year seminarians at the Father Deydier House and the program director visited the Marty’s Shrine in Midland, Ontario, Canada. Here, the eight canonized missionaries labored in the mid-17th century to bring the Catholic faith to Huron and other native peoples in the Americas. They endured cold nights, little food, and even torture yet their writings focus on the glimmers of hospitality, common bonds and openness of those native Americans who did receive baptism and the gift of faith in Jesus Christ. Ultimately, all eight met with gruesome deaths — being hacked to pieces while alive and some were even canibalized — in this place and in other lands in Canada and the United States. Very little from each of the bodies of the men remains, but half of the skull of St. John de Brebeuf (the other half, his jaw, was hacked off of his face), and some bones from the ribs and leg of two others — St. Charles Garnier and St. Gabriel Lalement are preserved in this church.
Praying for courage in the face of difficulty was easy in a place like this. It is very possible — even heroic and inspiring — to suffer for the sake of Jesus Christ and the Salvation of all peoples!

JOIN OUR 5-DAY FAST
Some men on the west side of Evansville are hosting a third-annual "Fast for Vocations" from Sunday, December 10 to Thursday, December 15. As we fast, we offer up our suffering for clarity and courage in our own vocations, as well as for those who are discerning.
Will you join us?
Choose something(s) to fast from for those five days. Many of the men are making a bread and water (and coffee) fast. Some are fasting from technology and replacing that time with rosaries or daily Masses. Maybe your fast could just be not eating between meals. Regardless, pick something to fast from and stick to it from Dec 10-15.
If you can and want to join us in person, we are starting the fast at the 7:30am Sunday parish Mass at Sacred Heart in Evansville. A holy hour is offered before that Mass. We will gather to end our fast on Thursday with a Rosary at 5:30pm and Mass at 6pm, also at Sacred Heart Church.
Daily reflection emails will be sent out to those who commit. Please email Matt Goebel ([email protected]) to sign up.
I hope you will join us.
Father Tyler
Join women age 18-30 next Saturday for cookies and a discussion about peace! Held in the Holy Redeemer youth room after the 5pm Mass.
“Let us go forward in peace, our eyes upon heaven, the only one goal of our labors.” Saint Therese of Lisieux
Our Evansville Diocesan Serra Club hosted a big Thanksgiving dinner for the first-year seminarians and their families at the Father Deydier House last night. Our Serrans prepared, brought and served the wonderful dinner, and we prayed for them today in our chapel!
Following dinner, Troop 399 donated a just-delivered Christmas tree for our House, and the families of our men helped get the upcoming season underway. (PS: they begin sales at Sacred Heart Catholic Church tomorrow!)
🦃🍁Happy Thanksgiving to all!🍁🦃
Have you seen servers in red cassocks around the diocese? They serve at home parishes, Masses at the Cathedral with Bishop Siegel and in our Catholic High Schools. These servers were trained at our annual summer Master of Ceremonies Training Camp, and they wear the same red cassock St. Dominic Savio, St. John Berchmans and many other saints have donned for centuries.
Thanks for serving, guys!
Last night, several Siena girls gathered to learn about how to make acts of service a part of their daily lives. They put what they learned into action by making bereavement bracelets and writing letters for parents who have lost a child.
November Savio Night at the Father Deydier House brought 74 guys together with a half-dozen seminarians and as many dads for pizza, football, bonfires and a formation conference on the devotion to Divine Mercy.
Thank you to the Seminarians from the Father Deydier House of Discernment who spent their weekend with us at Resurrection! They served at Masses, got to know our parishioners, and shared their vocations stories with our Religious Education students.
We loved having them here!
All are welcome this Sunday, November 19th, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church for an evening of encountering Christ through uplifting and spiritual music and prayer.
The theme for this month’s ARISE Holy Hour is Giving Thanks. The evening will begin with music at 6:45 and adoration will begin at 7:00. Reconciliation will be offered the hour during ARISE.
We invite all girls that come to Siena this Sunday to bring a canned or boxed food item with them. Donations will go to benefit a local food pantry this Thanksgiving season! We can’t wait to see you on Sunday!
🥁🥁🥁And the winners are🥁🥁🥁
Congratulations to our top three in both the individual and group categories, and Thank You to all who participated! See you in 2024! 😎

Our annual "All Saints Day Photo Contest" has begun. We asked our Savio guys to find images of Saints, imitate them as close as possible, and share those photos with all of us.
Like, Comment and Share your favorites to cast your vote. Individual and Group winners will be announced on the evening of the Solemnity of All Saints.
Well done, guys! 👊And happy Solemnity! 🙏🎉

Our Propaedeutic seminarians spent this weekend at St Joe Jasper. A beautiful parish with a long and rich tradition.
PS: the photo of the church’s windows lit up was taken at 7:12am Sunday morning before the start of the *second* Sunday morning Mass at St. Joseph.
Savio Night was held at Corpus Christi tonight. Four Savio seniors shared the highlights from their TURIN23 pilgrimage to Italy this past spring. Lots of time for sports, including a massive 90-person game of dodgeball was also held.
Siena girls celebrated St. John Paul II’s feast day today with several fall-themed games, a bonfire & s’mores, and discussion on JPII’s ministry!
Savio took a Saturday pilgrimage to Monte Casino and Saint Meinrad this weekend. Check out the photos from the visit.
Notice anyone familiar to our Diocese in the background?
Come meet the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand. Please share with any adult women you know who might be interested.
This fall, our first-year seminarians are in a "Propaedeutic Stage," a time of discernment and formation in our diocese. Next year, should they continue to hear a call to priesthood, they will be sent to various seminary campuses that we use for philosophy and theology studies.
One piece of their discernment this year is "Parish Vocations Weekends" across the Diocese. The first-year seminarians accompany Father Tyler to parishes for their weekend Masses. They serve with parish servers, have a Saturday evening dinner with the parish priests, and assist at faith formation between Sunday Masses. It gives the parishes a chance to meet our seminarians and our seminarians a chance to meet their potential brother priests and potential bride.
Here are some shots of Parish Vocations Weekends so far. Thanks for welcoming these men!
