Seminar with Masters - Hoy Lee
October 1-2, 2022
When I asked Grand Master Hoy Lee for a short bio for this seminar event, he replied “Chris, I am not a writer. I act and I do”. He is a low-key and humble person, so he will probably not tell you that he was friends with Bruce Lee or that he was awarded the titles of Living Legend, Outstanding Master and American Treasure by a variety of organizations. His students have performed for President Jimmy Carter at the White House and at several foreign embassies. He has also taught White House Special Security staff and at various police departments.
From knowing him for four decades, I can also say that you can tell a lot about his character from the people associated with him. His children and students are highly skilled in Kung Fu, and they are also genuinely polite and poised. Their actions reflect the Grand Master’s teachings.
Grand Master Hoy Lee is also the founder of the Jow Ga Kung Fu Federation in the US. This system is recognized as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage” by the Chinese government. The Jow Ga Kung Fu system precisely incorporates elements from Hung Ga, Choy Ga, and Bak Siu Lum, creating just the right combination of fluidity, speed, and devastating stopping power for which this unique fighting system is best known.
In this seminar, Grand Master Hoy Lee will expand your understanding and practice of Southern Style Kung Fu by teaching you how to apply its most practical short and long techniques as well as the dynamic power of the striking force.

In the past two years, the global pandemic has posed an incredible test of our will. Long-term boredom at home is one of the reasons why the number of competitors in this year's U.S. Junior Wushu Team Trials nearly doubled compared to previous years. With only the first and second place athletes of each age group selected to represent the U.S. team in the World Junior Wushu Championships held in Indonesia this December, a large numbers of schools sent their best athletes to participate in the competition, which made this year's competition particularly fierce.
Our US Wushu Academy sent a total of five athletes to the competition this year. Three of them participated in the trials for the first time and gained valuable competition experience. The other two athletes, Tony Wang took first place in the Male Group B, and Joanne Li win second place in the Female Group A. Both of them qualified for the 8th World Junior Wushu Championships in Indonesia and the 13th Pan American Wushu Championships in Brazil.
Recall that in 2020, the US Wushu Academy was forced to suspend in-person physical training at the school for two years due to the pandemic, and students could only train virtually. Tony and Joanne continued to train and practice diligently, and in result, both have earned their spots the US National Junior Wushu Team.
We hope both of them will cherish this unique opportunity, continue to train whole heartily to improve their skills level, and achieve good results in the competition.
We wish our two Wushu Warriors from the US Wushu Academy the ability to realize their dreams and return home with honor!
