Karma Yoga: Classes, Community & Retreats
A yoga school meets studio experience, offering a blend of powerful flows & softer classes.
Welcome to our yoga teacher satsang. We’ll be holding these quarterly, and are offering an assisting workshop for local yoga teachers. We know that hands on practice is the key to offering safe and helpful assists for students, and it can be challenging to get practice and feedback.
These workshops are free for our Karma Yoga teachers and a sliding scale for local teachers in the DMV area. These events take time and care to prepare. Please offer what you are able and gladly willing to pay.
No matter the cost, your presence is what matters! If cost is an issue, please contact us at [email protected]
What is money? What is the spiritual aspect of money, and how can we best manage money – and ourselves?

This weekend marks the end of summer and honors the makers who labor to create beautiful and necessary things from nature’s raw elements. We all may have a little laborer inside us, what is it that you create for others?
It could be a loving home, a hand crafted birthday card, a bouquet of flowers, furniture in the home, or the steel and concrete structures of our cities. At Karma Yoga, we labor to create a spiritual home – a space for personal development, personal care and community connection.
We’ve got an amazing lineup of classes, events and retreats lined up for the fall, and please share this post with folks who might love to join us! 🙏

Join us for a special mantra night, focusing on the loving, devotional and compassionate qualities of Radha and Krishna. Sugopi and Devendra do a short presentation on Vrindavan, the sacred home of Radha and Krishna, giving us context and explanation for the greater spiritual practices in India and in the U.S.
Later Ethan will break down the philosophy and meaning of the mantra, and Peter and Yasmin will lead us in sacred kirtan. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more, ask questions and try something new!

"This is one of my favorite classes to teach. We start with gentle movements to gently bring fluids into our connective tissues, and then start with our yin practice. We are working the connective tissues with a consistent, positive stress – working with our breath to release tensions and with our mind to find equanimity. We close class with loving-kindness meditation and a body scan."
Class is held in the low 70°Fs. Yin Yoga focuses on applying consistent, positive stress to the connective tissues such as ligaments and bone by holding poses for 3-5 minutes. Yin Yoga is particularly helpful for low back pain and flexibility. Class opens or closes with meditation and has gentle movement and complementary muscle activation threaded throughout.

Join Olivia as she returns to Morocco. We’ll start our journey at the movie star gateway to Africa where Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed. We’ll travel to Todra Gorge, a lush oasis in the mountains, before making our way to the Sahara – where we’ll experience Amazigh meals, desert night skies and sunrises, before taking a camel ride out to the dunes. Embrace the chance to connect with Morocco’s rich heritage and your own inner explorer.

📝 ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival & Grounding in Aït Benhaddou
Welcome to Aït Benhaddou, the movie star gateway to Africa! Arrive in this ancient kasbah and begin your journey with grounding yoga practice on the terrace and a warm introduction to Moroccan culture. Watch the sunset over the ancient city.
Day 2: Explore the Old Kasbah & Stay at Todra Gorge
Watch the sunrise from the top of the ancient city. We’ll have breakfast before making our way to Todra Gorge. We’ll walk the gorge and gardens, and settle in for yoga on the terrace before home made Berber dinner
Day 3: Journey to the Desert
After breakfast, we’ll leave our things at the auberge and take a small night pack to Merzouga (4 hour drive) where you’ll likely see young camels gallivanting down the road! We’ll have the option to dune buggy or ride in a 4x4 across the dunes to stay in luxury bedouin tents.
Day 4: Sunrise in the Sahara
Rise with the sun for breakfast on the dunes, followed by a camel ride to the red ocean of sand. Enjoy running around, meditating or getting (just a little bit!) lost. We’ll have the option to sand board down the dunes before making our way back to Todra Gorge.
Day 5: Via Ferrata & Cooking Class
You’ll have the option for solo time, or challenge yourself by climbing the Via Ferrata, an iron course up a cliff wall that was actively used during World War II. In the afternoon, we’ll settle in for a cooking class and enjoy the fruits of our labor!
Day 6: Return to Ouarzazate & Farewell
We’ll have one last breakfast on the terrace and bid farewell to Todra Gorge and the Sahara as we return to Ouarzazate to return home.

A safe, sacred gathering space for women. Together, we’ll explore seasonal themes via journaling, sharing circle, and a practice (different each time, could be slow flow or restorative yoga, meditation, art, dance or other). We’ll also share light refreshments.
July’s theme is “Nourishment”… what it means to us, whether we’re getting enough of it, how we might better nourish ourselves and how this might positively impact our lives and those around us.
This will include mindfully nourishing ourselves with the bounty of the season (think fresh farmer’s market fruit!), and a beautiful short meditation/restorative yoga practice with optional Reiki to further nourish, receive and rebalance.
📔 Be sure to bring a journal and pen!
Props are available for sitting (we’ll be on the floor), as are a limited number of chairs. If you’d like to bring a cushion, pillow or blanket from home to make yourself more comfortable, please do!
** 🕊 Sliding Scale! This is a community event, so we want to make the space accessible to everybody, while also providing support for our teacher and for the Karma Yoga space for hosting. Please pay what you are willing and able. Higher donation amounts support those who are not able to give as much. If you need further financial assistance please email us at [email protected]

Introduction to Karma Yoga
What makes Karma Yoga special? Our goal is to provide a safe and secular space for yoga practice, which at its root, is much more than just the physical practice. Yoga derives from the Sanksrit word for yoke. In the same way that two oxen are yoked together and must remain calm and focused through the exhaustion of field labor, or two chariot horses through the chaos of war – the yoga practice yokes together our minds and bodies through our daily lives.
What type of yoga do we practice? At Karma Yoga, most of our classes are the Baptiste-style vinyasa Journey Into Power, unless otherwise noted. We have several Advanced Vinyasa classes which are focused on technique and are a great opportunity to deepen your practice. The rooms are heated to the low 80s during the spring and summer months, and low 90s during the fall and winter. Our goal is to provide enough heat to be comfortable and for the muscles to relax, and also allow the body to stay in season.
Yin Yoga and HIIT. In our aim to balance and unify, we want to provide a strong yin yoga and HIIT program. In yin yoga, we hold poses for 3-5 minutes and focus on working our connective tissue such as ligaments, tendons, bone, and fascia. As teachers come on board, we hope to add more yin classes to the schedule. On the other end, classes such as HIIT Pilates (High Intensity Interval Training) are practiced on a mat and provides high-intensity, targeted exercises incorporating yoga poses.
Tai Chi and Qigong. There are many cultures and ways of practicing this mind-body union. We have selected Tai Chi and Qigong because they are complementary to the yoga practice, and a good option for people with limited range of motion. The Tai Chi classes begin with a short standing meditation and closes with the first third of the Zhengmanqing’s 37 Yang Style Taijiquan. Qigong is a standing practice that incorporates stretching and deep breathing, and closes with a short standing meditation. To learn more, please email [email protected]
