With a total score of 3 under 207, Biagioli is the 103rd GAM Champion!

And a special runner up finish for Barton Hills Member and Carl’s Golfland COO Casey Baker! He added to his impressive history at the GAM Championship with a 2nd runner up finish to go with his 2 championships! Posting a 3 round total of 211 ( 1 over par).

Thank you to , our volunteers and all the competitors for all their patience, cooperation and support as we dealt with a lot of weather issues the past two days but what a memorable championship and beautiful course.

GAM CHAMPIONSHIP: MCCOY BIAGIOLI’S SUPER SUMMER CONTINUES; HE LEADS WITH ONE ROUND TO GO

ANN ARBOR – McCoy Biagioli of White Lake, already the Michigan Amateur Champion this summer, shot rounds of 69 and 67 for 4-under 136 and a two-shot lead through the first 36-holes and first day of the 103rd GAM Championship presented by Carl’s Golfland Monday at Barton Hills Country Club.
The Ferris State University golfer will lead those who made the cut to the low 30 scorers and ties into Tuesday’s final round in the historic championship. The cut fell at 6-over 146.
McCoy said the key to his emergence this summer is his short game, which has become as good as his long game, and once again paid huge dividends Monday.
“For the day I was six-of-six with sand saves from the bunker, and I holed out two bunker shots, one for eagle at No. 3 this afternoon, and one at 11 this morning,” he said. “I know, crazy. It used to be I would hit a lot of good golf shots, but everybody makes mistakes, and when I made one, I would make bogey or worse. Now, I’ve put in so much work on it that I’m always confident I can save par.”
Justin Sui of Lake Orion, a University of Florida student who doesn’t play college golf, shot 68 and 70 for 138, and Evan Johnson of Grosse Ile, a Northwood University golfer, who shot 70 and 68 for 138, were Biagioli’s closest pursuers.
Carter Housler of Lansing, a Kansas University golfer, shot 66, the low round of the morning, and 73 in the afternoon for 139.
Five golfers were next at even-par 140 including Casey Baker, a two-time former GAM Champion (2005, 2010), COO of sponsoring Carl’s Golfland and a Barton Hills member. He shot an afternoon-best 66.
The others at 140 were Jeffrey Andrus of Clawson and Central Michigan University, who shot 73-67, Kole Putnam of Ga***rd and Ferris State University, who shot 69-71, Drew Coble of Lake Orion and Grand Valley State University, who shot 71-69, and Chad Gehres of Howell, who shot 69-71.

DEFENDING CHAMPION BRIDGET BOCZAR OF CANTON LEADS 33RD GAM WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP AT SAGINAW CC

SAGINAW – Defending champion Bridget Boczar of Canton started the defense of her title in stellar fashion.
The Baylor University golfer shot a 5-under 66 and had the lead through one round of the 33rd GAM Women’s Championship presented by Carl’s Golfland at Saginaw Country Club Monday.
Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll of Haslett, the head women’s golf coach at Michigan State University and a member of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame, was her closest pursuer with a 70. Slobodnik-Stoll is a former champion, having won the championship in 1998.
Two golfers checked in at 71, Macie Elzinga of Byron Center and soon-to-be Bowling Green State University, and Laura Bavaird, who is the director of the GAM Foundation.
Olivia Stoll of Haslett, Slobodnik-Stoll’s daughter and a Grand Valley State University golfer, and Taylor Kondel of Grand Blanc, a University of Detroit Mercy golfer, each opened with 72s.
The field plays another 18 holes Tuesday.
Last year at Washtenaw Golf Club in the 32nd championship, Boczar won by saving par from a greenside bunker on the second hole of a three-way sudden-death playoff with Kate Brody of Grand Blanc and Anci Dy of Traverse City.

Ieuan Jones of Ann Arbor Advances to Match Play in U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills Country Club

Ieuan Jones of Ann Arbor made a par on the first hole of a 13-golfer playoff and will play in the 76th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship’s first round of match play later today at Oakland Hills Country Club.
Jones, one of the 13 golfers vying for the final nine spots in the field, is the No. 63 seed and at 1 p.m. will play No. 2 seed Tyler Watts of Huntsville, Ala., who last summer at age 15 became the youngest player to ever win the Alabama State Amateur.
Jones shot matching 72s, the first on the South course on Monday and the second on the North course on Tuesday for 4-over 144, which left him on the cut line, tied for 56th, and in the Wednesday morning playoff.
The 13 golfers played hole No. 10 on the North course, a 155-yard par 3, for the playoff. Match play will be on the South course.
“Very exciting, it didn’t look like I would get in the match play field for a while yesterday, but I managed to claw my way back in,” Jones said after this morning’s playoff. “There are two great golf courses here. It is a really tough test, the rough has been pretty incredible. I’m just looking forward to playing another round.”
Jones made a birdie on the 17th hole of the North Course late Tuesday night to get in the playoff mix.
“On the previous hole I had a birdie putt of about three feet and we barely missed it, so then going to two par fours of like 480 and 460 yards to finish looked like a task that was pretty large, but we made it happen,” he said.
He said he had confidence going into the playoff.
“I knew one hole, one stroke could change everything,” he said.

Ieuan Jones of Ann Arbor in Playoff for U.S. Junior Amateur Match Play Field at Oakland Hills Country Club

Connor Fox of Lake Orion, the recent Michigan Junior State Amateur Champion, had the honor of hitting the first tee shot of the 76th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, off No. 1 on the famed South Course Monday morning.

And Ieuan Jones of Ann Arbor is headed for a 7:24 a.m. Wednesday sudden-death playoff with 12 other players, who are attempting to get one of the nine final spots in the match play field of 64. Visit USGA.org for live scoring.

Jones shot matching 72s, the first on the South on Monday and the second on the North on Tuesday for 4-over 144, which left him on the cut line, tied for 56th.

Rykert Frisinger, the third member of the GAM trio playing in the starting field, like Fox, missed the 36-hole cut into match play.

Battling weather delays, humidity and high rough, Fox shot rounds of 75 on the South and 83 on the North for a 158 total, and Frisinger shot 89 on the South and 81 on the North for 170.

The three accomplished GAM golfers were part of the starting field of 264 golfers, which included players from 40 states and 36 countries. Match play is scheduled to continue through Saturday to determine the champion.

Jones, 18, earned his spot in the field by shooting a 4-under 68 to earn medalist honors in the Omaha, Neb., qualifier on May 30 at Champions Run Golf Club. The 2022 MHSAA Division 1 state champion individual and member of the Ann Arbor Skyline state championship team in 2021, Jones is also a former GAM Junior Stroke Play champion and GAM 14-and-under Match Play champion.

Fox, who has a year remaining at Lake Orion High but has committed to play at Michigan State University in the fall of 2025, has been an MHSAA All-State Team golfer the last three years, and was runner-up in the 2023 Michigan Junior State Amateur.

Frisinger, 18, who plans to play on the golf team at Northwood University, earned his spot in the field as an alternate. He shot 72 in the qualifier at Country Club of Lansing and earned the first alternate spot. Frisinger was a semi-finalist in the 2023 Michigan Junior State Amateur. He is also a four-time MHSAA All-State selection while playing for Hillsdale Academy, and is the son of Rolla Frisinger, a PGA professional who runs the Callaway/Meijer Junior Tour in Michigan.
