The Cumberland Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Board of Supervisors recognized outgoing board member Clifton McNeill Jr. during the board’s regular meeting held Dec. 14 in the Cumberland County Agriculture Center.

Cumberland SWCD Board of Supervisors Chairman, C. Wayne Collier presented a plaque of appreciation to McNeill during the meeting. McNeill was appointed to the Board of Supervisors by the N.C. Soil and Water Conservation Commission and began service on Jan. 17, 2012.

“Clifton McNeill has been a great leader and an encourager for me and a lot of other people to stay involved and keep conservation in mind for everything we do – keeping our soil in place, clean water and preserving farmlands,” said Collier.

McNeill has served as a chairman of the Cumberland SWCD Board of Supervisors as well as chairman of Area VII, which encompasses Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson and Scotland counties. McNeill has also served on the Joint Planning Board and was on the South River Electric Membership Board of Directors from 2013 – 2023.

McNeill is a second-generation produce farmer in the Hope Mills area. Before retiring, he grew strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes and cabbage up until 2015 at his farm in Gray’s Creek

Cumberland SWCD is very grateful for Mr. McNeill's service and support over these many years.
