May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
Here are a few important things to keep in mind.
1. Mental Health is Health!
2. Talk openly about mental health to help reduce myths and misconceptions and destigmatize.
3. Encourage those who are suffering to seek help and find a support network. Adults need a village too!
4. Be kind to everyone. You don’t have to meet anger with anger and hate with it. Sometimes it’s just that the person is hurting and they don’t know how to positively express what they are feeling.
5. Self-care is an integral part of addressing mental health…it is how we take our power back.
6. There is always hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.
7. For the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
I love this picture of DrOmekio Riggins. She says her stance is forever that of gratitude. She loves providing advocacy and clinical supervision. The field of Social Work speaks to her heart to provide support for those who remind her of where she once was in life in so many areas...grief, loss, surviving domestic violence and teenage pregnancy. She praises God from a place of victory....NOT DEFEAT.
I had the pleasure of going through undergrad with this beautiful woman. I loved her tenacity and her will to overcome. I am pleased to introduce another strong woman that has graced the profession of social work with her presence, passion and gifts. The one thing she loves about being a social worker is that she is walking in her calling, Natasha, I salute you.
It is still National Social Worker Month and Women's History month!
I am honored to highlight Kendra Danzer on today. Her favorite part about being a Social Worker is that she gets to create connections for people. While she understands that she may not be the connection the person needs in that moment, having a relationship with someone she can create a connection for them that may not have been there is always the highlight of the work she does. She has an excellent work ethic, an unwavering compassion for others and she is STRONG, literally and figuratively. KD, I salute you.
The Bethesda Collaborative, PLLC is honored to highlight this amazing woman who is a Clinical Social Worker. She is my cousin. Her story is amazing, but what I want you to know about her is that her passion for social work is tied to all of the possibilities the field of social work embodies. It allows us to work in many settings, whether micro or macro. HERstory is amazing. I salute you Kalita.
The Bethesda Collaborative, PLLC would like to feature another amazing Social Worker, Sharon Scott.
In terms of her favorite thing about Social Work, Sharon says she likes being able to help people, especially those at a disadvantage. Social Work is a service field of study so it compliments my life as well it allows me to serve my community.

Today ushers in National Social Worker Month. Being a social worker is a thankless job and some people have the wrong perception of what Social Workers actually do. So, to help shed a better light on social workers, I will feature some pretty awesome Social Workers and allow them to share why they like being a social worker.
I am starting with a real special person. Her transparency heals and helps. She said that she likes helping educate those who seem lost in despair that is not tomorrow and that tomorrow is not a permanent future to find hope in change. I salute you Carla
