Our oceans are a critical component to our planet’s life systems. Not only do oceans produce at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen, but they also absorb about 30% of carbon dioxide produced by humans.
As a partner of the UN Environment Programme, the Resiliency Center continues to research ways our water systems can become more resilient and sustainable as part of the Sustainable Development Goal 14, “Life Below Water”, by 2030.
We are happy to announce the University of Arkansas Community Design Center in collaboration with the University of Arkansas Resiliency Center has won the 2021 Green Good Design Award for their project “Wood City: Timberizing the Standard Real Estate Product Types”

Meet our Executive Director, Dr. Marty Matlock! Not only is Dr. Matlock the founder of the Resiliency Center, he is a Professor of Ecological Engineering at the University of Arkansas. With over 30 national and international awards, his research has been recognized by some of the leading organizations in agriculture, engineering, architecture and sustainable design. Dr. Matlock’s focus of research is finding ways to create more resilient ecosystem services and has been serving our Razorback community for almost 20 years!
