Spring cleaning provides a great opportunity!

Many come across things that they would otherwise throw away that The Kids Help Network puts to good use to give kids an incentive to write letters to thank and encourage Wounded Warriors and families of deployed and fallen service men and women.

How does that work?

Wonderful people like you send sports collectibles for us to give to kids as incentive. They cannot afford nine dollars for a pack of football or baseball cards, but they will write a letter to receive something back in the mail.

We are always in need of old ticket stubs, pocket schedules, stickers, sports cards - whatever any send we put to good use.

To date, we have converted items that many were likely to throw away into more than 200 letters from kids all over the US and Canada.

Won't you please take a moment and see if you have any unwanted game programs, ticket stubs, schedules - any and every item you send represents a letter to encourage and a positive activity for a youth.

This Memorial Day weekend, I do greatly appreciate the many things I see on social media where people take a moment to thank or appreciate the fallen and those still serving.

Please do not take this the wrong way - all of that is good, but who will join me in doing just a little bit more?

The Kids Help Network was founded by our son over ten years ago to encourage kids to take their eyes off of themselves for a few moments, put pen to paper, and write a letter or draw a picture to thank and encourage the Wounded Warriors. He came up with the idea to offer the kids an incentive of a variety of free collectibles that we received by writing to various sports teams and companies. For every letter we received, we would send the writer a free collectible. Kids love getting stuff in the mail, and to date, we have received more than 200 letters and drawings from all over the US and Canada that we forward through the American Red Cross and other avenues.

One can help by writing a letter to thank or encourage a warrior or even the family of a fallen hero. Others have collectibles that they can send for us to put to good use - some have sports cards, old ticket stubs and pocket schedules from events and teams sitting in a drawer somewhere. These are very popular with the kids who cannot afford nine dollars a pack for sports cards. Most ticket stubs and pocket schedules have team logos or other pictures and the kids love them.

We have a few new things on the drawing board that we will be announcing in the very near future - new activities, new partnerships, perhaps a contest or two.

Please take a moment to check that out and consider the above appeal. And thank you to any and all who do whatever it is you do to honor those have gave everything for our freedom.
