Dificultades Extremas: En este tipo de casos por lo general se trata de evitar la separación de familiares que enfrentan deportación o inadmisibilidad en los Estados Unidos. En estos casos un ciudadano Americano o un residente permanente legal de los Estados Unidos es el cónyuge, padre, o hijo de la persona que está enfrentado un caso de inmigracion. La evaluación de salud mental se enfoca en el impacto psicológico que las dificultades extremas podrían causarle al ciudadano Americano o residente permanente si se viera separado de su familiar o si se viera en necesidad de salir de los Estado Unidos con su familiar. Estas evaluaciones incluyen síntomas psicológicos, información diagnóstica, así como el impacto a largo plazo de las dificultades en la salud mental y el bienestar de la persona.
VAWA: La Ley de Violencia contra la Mujer, es una disposición legal en los Estados Unidos que ayuda a proteger tanto a mujeres como a hombres víctimas de violencia doméstica que enfrentan desafíos de inmigración. Esta ley permite que víctimas de abuso doméstico/violencia doméstica puedan solicitar la residencia permanente, sin el consentimiento, ayuda, o la participación del cónyuge abusador.
