Developing speech and language skills is a difficult task. It is natural for young children to make mistakes while learning to speak. While many children overcome these errors and develop standard speech patterns, some may persist with certain speech difficulties beyond the typical age of mastery.

It becomes essential to be attentive if you notice:

1. Family members or friends have a hard time understanding your child.

2. Frustration is evident in your child due to difficulties in communication, impacting their desire to interact with others.

3. Your child shows no signs of frustration when trying to communicate, but you do not understand his/her speech.

If you have concerns about your child's speech development, consider discussing them with your child's doctor.

How can parents help if their child is learning more than one language?

✨ Encourage language development through daily routines. Mealtimes, bath time, playtime, and getting dressed are great opportunities for talking, teaching, and learning vocabulary for your child.

✨ Repeat, repeat, repeat. Children need to hear new words several times before they can use them.

✨ Be a language model, not a language enforcer. When a child uses an incorrect word or grammar, simply model the correct word or sentence instead of correcting them. Show your child what to say through modeling.
