I have been seeing yellow flowers in pastures and hayfields. This time of the year it can get confused with Butter cup.
It is called Yellow Rocket, it is a member of the mustard family. It is a winter annual that form a rosette in the fall. In the spring it shoots up a long slender stem with yellow flowers. It can be up to two foot tall. It is not as concentrated as butter cup. Buttercup is much shorter and the flowers are different.
🌞🌑 Are you ready for the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8, 2024? Safety is key when witnessing this event! 🌑🌞
Here are some essential safety and preparation tips to ensure you enjoy the eclipse totality to the fullest:
🕶Use Proper Eye Protection: Never look directly at the sun during the eclipse's partial phases without certified solar viewing glasses or handheld solar viewers. Regular sunglasses are NOT sufficient to protect your eyes.
📸Check Equipment: If you're using telescopes or cameras to view or photograph the eclipse, make sure you have the appropriate solar filters installed to prevent damage to your equipment and eyes.
🗒✏️Plan Ahead: Determine the best viewing location well in advance, considering factors such as weather, accessibility, and safety. Arrive early to secure your spot and avoid last-minute crowds.
🌦Stay Informed: Keep an eye on weather forecasts and any updates regarding the eclipse event. Be prepared to adjust your plans accordingly if adverse weather conditions are expected.
☀️Protect Your Skin: Even during a solar eclipse, UV rays can still pose a risk to your skin. Apply sunscreen with a high SPF rating and wear protective clothing to shield yourself from the sun's harmful rays.
🧠🚗Be Mindful of Traffic: Expect increased traffic and congestion, especially in areas along the path of totality. Plan your travel route in advance, and consider carpooling to minimize traffic congestion and environmental impact.
Remember, safety should always come first when viewing a solar eclipse. By following these tips and guidelines, you can safely experience the magic of totality without any risks to yourself or your equipment. Happy eclipse watching! 🌞🌑

Last weekend I stopped at the barn to unload feed. There is a Cedar tree next to the drive. I could see it was covered with a bright orange jelly like structure. It is called Cedar Apple Rust. It is a fungus that uses Cedar and apples tree to survive. It will not harm the Cedar tree but can cause significant damage Apple trees by causing leaf drop and poor quality fruit.

The Washington County Extension Office is at your service!
The Washington County Extension Service is here for you. We use the results of scientific research, much of it conducted at the University of Arkansas system colleges and our research stations, to help you improve your life and your community. We're basically a go-between between you and the scientists. Whether its a new crop variety, information about keeping your food safe, how to have a positive influence on kids, or how to develop your small business, we take what the scientists and experts tell us and use it to share information you can use, to answer your questions and to create programs that will make a difference all at a very low cost or free of charge.
