Professor Carlos has always been a huge part of our familia, and has guided us through many parts of our journey. Can’t wait to share the mats with our familia 🩶

This is Jeff Macatamgay
He was born and raised on the island of Guam.
Living on Guam, there were very few opportunities for growth not only for himself but for his family. A year after Jeff and his wife had their daughter, they moved to Seattle, Washington to start a better life for their family, and for more opportunities. Growing up on the island, jiu jitsu wasn’t very accessible.
In 2008, David Veloria , a friend from Guam, invited Jeff to try jiu jitsu at the taekwondo gym that him and Professor Kevin Smith were training jiu jitsu at the time. Jeff showed up to watch a class, but David brought him a gi that day and insisted he try it for himself. He put a gi on that day and never took it off. From the taekwondo gym, they later became Gracie Barra Federal Way. Jeff continued training and helping kids classes as his kids began training as well.
Over time, Jeff and his family began taking over more responsibilities of their academy. In 2015, the opportunity to take over the gym came. Jeff and his family never had any plans or intentions of becoming gym owners, but they felt that the community everyone had built at the gym was worth taking the risk for.
In 2017, Jeff got his black belt from Professors and of Gracie Barra Seattle/Bellevue.
Running the academy, Jeff and his family grew closer and helped grow not only a great community but a family at their gym. During the COVID pandemic, Jeff was forced out of his full-time job and became a full-time gym owner of his academy, which is now known as Isla Jiu Jitsu Academy
Presently he is a 2nd degree black belt

also a big congratulations to everyone promoted, especially to Professor Josiah on his well deserved black belt! we’ve known professor josiah & his family for years now, growing in the pnw jiu jitsu scene together. for those who don’t know, his professor passed away a few years ago and he stepped up and took over their academy. this was for professor derek 🙏🏽 happy to have you guys all a part of our famisla. 🩶
