Thank you to Virginia Mason Franciscan Health for sponsoring our upcoming Virtual Fundraising Breakfast on November 5th! Don't miss their Federal Way Drug Take Back event on Saturday! Time to clean out your medicine cabinet and keep your family safe.
There is still time to register for the Breakfast!: https://federalwayhighline.ciswa.org/event/virtual-breakfast-fundraiser/
Or you can donate to the Breakfast here: https://www.pledge.to/communities-in-schools-breakfast-fundraiser
As it has for the last three years, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) will host its fourth annual Drug Take Back event outside Federal Way Regional Medical Center (33501 First Way S. Federal Way) Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This event is part of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) twice-yearly, nationwide initiative encouraging Americans to inventory personal supplies of prescription drugs – as well as other medical supplies (e.g., inhalers, EpiPens, etc.) – to properly and safely dispose of unused or expired items.
In light of the continuing pandemic, VMFH will once again safely host the four-hour event with the help of a limited number of volunteer team members, who will follow Public Health – Seattle & King County and DEA safety protocols by wearing masks, eye shields and gloves as they maintain physical distance from each other and attendees.
To prioritize public health, participants will pull their cars up to a covered drop-off area, park, set their prescription drugs or medical supplies in a bin and take an informational flyer about year-round safe, secure disposal bins at VMFH and other locations throughout King County before driving away.
Over the last three years, this event has collected and safely disposed of 200 to 400 pounds of prescription drugs and medical supplies.
“It’s been a pleasure to head up our organization of this important Drug Take Back event,” said VMFH anesthesiologist Julie Vath, MD. “Having hosted a successful event last fall, we’ve proven we can safely collect and dispose of prescription drugs and medical supplies and look forward to another big haul this year.”
