From the notepad, on MLK.

01/12/2024

As we approach another MLK holiday weekend, “Where do we go from here?”

From the pages:

Some Black Power advocates consider an appeal to conscience irrelevant. A Black Power exponent said to me not long ago: “To hell with conscience and morality. We want power.” But power and morality must go together, implementing, fulfilling, and ennobling each other. In the quest for power I cannot bypass the concern for morality.

I refuse to be driven to a Machiavellian cynicism with respect to power. Power at its best is the right use of strength. The words of Alfred the Great are still true: “Power is never good unless he who has it is good.” Nonviolence is power, but it is the right and good use of power. Constructively it can save the white man as well as the Negro.—Dr.King

HONOR and MOVEMENT.

Over the years, we’ve been blessed to work with some truly amazing people! Several months ago, we entered into a divine process of de-organizing in order to be positioned to move in some new ways. Since movements that don’t move aren’t movements at all; we delight in blessing individuals who move with us for a time before moving into what G-d has next for them.

As they move on to the next, it is a joy to honor Nicole Poolman who has been a fundamental pillar in our organization for the last few years, and Jameelah Rheaves who has held it down as Pastor JT’s assistant. Thank you! May the favor of the L-RD go before you and establish the work of your hands. We truly can’t wait to see how G-d blesses the world through you in the days ahead.. 👉🏾 for more about them!

In light of the conflict in the Middle East, we acknowledge the sorrow, confusion, and outrage that exists on both sides of the conversation due to the intense historical, sociological, political, and theological complexities that have framed the situation.

However in the beginning of 2023, we discerned a clear directive from the Lord to begin praying and working toward peace within that region. We felt then that the American "racial reckoning" from 2020-the present was merely a pre-cursor to the ultimate conflict which we see escalating in that region now. As a result, this video explains just a little bit of what we are currently doing within the St.Louis are where we are based, how we are praying, and why.

In one weekend, our world has changed. As we continue to grapple with the magnitude of Hamas’ brutal, surprise assault on the nation of Israel and the war that has ensued, we recognize that news outlets can perhaps satiate our craving for the latest updates, but only the Word and the Spirit offer answers that bring prophetic clarity and comfort.

We invite you to join Pastor Jonathan Thomas and the Civil Righteousness University’s Foundations class TONIGHT, Oct. 11 from 7 - 9 p.m. Central as he shares on “The Mystery of the One New Humanity in a Season of War.”

We acknowledge and celebrate the birth and extraordinary legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The intense flame of his life burned brightly, his leadership guiding the nation closer to reflecting a transcendent love.
-
Many have received and run with portions of the baton that he passed 58 years ago. Yet, many are still longing for his caliber of moral leadership to emerge within this generation. Today, we celebrate the many other individuals, movements, and organizations who are rising to the challenge.
-
Inequity demands Civil Rights, but Iniquity requires Civil Righteousness.
-
This is how we are carrying the baton daily in the pursuit of a more righteous and just society. This is “Our Story”
