This month marks the 50th anniversary of women serving in Army Aviation!

In June 1974, LT Sally Woolfolk was the first woman to graduate from flight school. After 27 years of service, she retired as Col. Sally Murphy in 1999. Since then, many women have followed in her footsteps. Today, women in Army Aviation make up a critical part of the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade.

Check out this photo of the female aviators at 1-10 Attack Battalion. They operate the AH-64, UH-60 and HH-60. They are comprised of 7 pilots in command, platoon leaders, a company commander, mission planners, two task force primary staff officers, a medical detachment commander, and air mission commanders. All of these aviators wake up every day focused on accomplishing their mission.

On April 15th, Atlas Company promoted Madison Gray to First Lieutenant. 1LT Gray spent the past year serving as the Platoon leader of the newly developed Distribution Platoon, where she developed a team proficient in FARP operations, water purification, fuel testing, bulk transfers, and transportation support with the help of SSG Waters. She will subsequently go on to serve as the Maintenance PL and MCO in HSC. Her leadership will be missed and we look forward to the good things to come from her!

Today Atlas Soldiers enjoyed an Organizational Day of a Squad PT Challenge, a 10th Mountain Division Museum Tour, and a Family Day!

At the PT Challenge, Team Hercules and Team Athena combined for their first win!

At the museum the company learned the rich history of 10th MTN DIV and how logistics has enabled victory in wars throughout U.S. history!

At the family day, the company promoted five Soldiers, gave seven awards, and farewelled former executive officer, 1LT Re*****on. Those are listed below.

And finally, thank you to 10th Mountain Division & Fort Drum Museum for hosting Atlas Company and helping show the Soldiers why we do what we do!

Last week newly formed squads conducted the Atlas Challenge, where junior leaders led their squads to compete against one another in events of TCCC, Weapons familiarization, communications proficiency, and CBRN reaction procedures. Cohesive squads are lethal squads. 🇺🇸

What better way to transition to Holiday Block Leave? Atlas Soldiers conducted successful M2 and MK19 ranges followed by well deserved promotions, awards, and coins from LTC Hayward. Congratulations to all those promoted and recognized today! A special shoutout to SPC Facey, SPC Stewart, SPC Hearon, SPC Santana, and PFC Arellano for climbing the ranks and earning waivers for early promotion.

Atlas Soldiers will now enjoy some down time during block leave before coming back and preparing for what’s down the road!
