When I visited Fort Worth Independent School District Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences last week on the first day of school, I was delighted to run into Dr. Elva LaBlanc, Chancellor of Tarrant County College. Dr LaBlanc has overcome so many challenges including the fact that like many of our students, English was not her first language growing up. She is a wonderful model of perseverance and dedication to ALL students.

Indeed, when I first served on the school board, Dr. LaBlanc and I worked together to ensure FWISD students had a chance to take college level classes. Now that is a beautiful reality.

Many thanks to all for attending the Fort Worth ISD community meeting this evening. And thanks to my colleague, board trustee Anne Darr for hosting us.

I so enjoyed visiting students and their instructors today, including at Fort Worth Independent School District Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences which is located at Tarrant County College Trinity Campus. Already our students are learning new languages and taking on physics!
