Last month we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of residents from ! The group had the opportunity to tour the new expansion, enjoy lunch in the dining room and even spend the afternoon with WARM Place Co-founder, Peggy Bohme – always a special treat! Our Co-founder Dr. John Richardson was a resident at The Stayton before his death in 2019. It was an honor to invite a handful of his friends and neighbors to celebrate in this great achievement of Dr. John’s vision coming to life.

Our WARM Place Board of Directors plays an instrumental role for our organization. One of those incredible Board Members is Susan Adams. Susan has served on The WARM Place Board of Directors since 2021 and currently serves as the Treasurer. Susan heard of The WARM Place many years ago when a friend at the time brought her two young children after her husband was killed in the line of duty. However, Susan has her own personal grief story that connects her to our mission. To read more >> https://www.thewarmplace.org/board-member-spotlight-susan-adams/
Pre-K groups at The WARM Place are designed for children, ages 3 ½ to 5, who have experienced the death of a loved one. Our Pre-K groups meet from 12pm-1pm on Wednesdays for 10 weeks in the spring and fall. This program offers a safe space for families to share their feelings and connect with grief related activities. 🧡

The symposium allows grief support professionals, clinicians, educators, and volunteers to come together, gain valuable educational experiences, and feel a sense of connection with others that advocate for families who are grieving. It's our pleasure to introduce you to Custom Art By Lisa, the artist responsible for the captivating paintings gracing the walls of The WARM Place. 🖌 One of the most defining characteristics about this home are the many murals that bring the group rooms to life. Some may not know this, but every mural is very intentional in that it represents an element of one's grief journey. Yet, these murals didn't create themselves. This will provide a month of grief support service for seven children and their families, at absolutely no cost to them. Special thanks to pharmacist Donny McCoy for choosing The WARM Place, and to his wife Mandy, a current WARM Place facilitator!

When someone experiences grief, they feel it in many different ways. Perhaps more noticeably to children are the physical affects. Sometimes they feel like their heart hurts. Sometimes their eyes hurt from crying or trying not to cry. Sometimes stomachs or heads hurt. Sometimes even legs or arms hurt. Recently in our children’s group, we had the children trace their bodies on butcher paper and mark where they've felt pain since the death loss. Afterwards, each child received a few Band-Aids to place on their drawing, symbolically soothing their hurts.
That’s a wrap on 🗻💙🧡🗻
