Remembering Carrie Eddleman-McFarland on her Heavenly Birthday 🌟
On this day in 1877, Caroline Aurelia Eddleman came into this world. She was the cherished daughter of William Harrison Eddleman and his wife, Sarah Conger Eddleman. Caroline, along with her husband, attorney, banker, businessman, and cattle rancher F. Hays McFarland, played a pivotal role in the history of the Ball-Eddleman-McFarland House.
In 1904, the Eddleman’s acquired this magnificent estate from Mrs. George Ball, a Galvestonian who hired English architect Howard Messer to design her 1899 house. Over seven decades, Carrie lovingly maintained the splendor of this Victorian Mansion at 1110 Penn Street until her passing in May 1978. Her dedication allowed the Junior League of Fort Worth to purchase and start restoring this gem for future generations. In 1984, the Junior League gave McFarland House to Historic Fort Worth, Inc. so that a charity dedicated to preservation could continue the restoration work.
Today, McFarland House revels in the opulence of the Gilded Era in the heart of what was once known as Quality Hill in Fort Worth. It is open to the public for tours on the hour on Wednesday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday’s at 11:00, noon, 1:00. 2:00 and 3:00. It is also open on Sundays at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00.
Join us in sending warm wishes on what would have been Carrie's 146th birthday today (10/25/1877). 🎉
Please consider making a donation in Carrie’s honor to Historic Fort Worth, Inc. so we can continue to preserve Fort Worth’s unique culture for generations to come.
Still time to reserve your spot.
