The Black Health Equity Coalition has a goal to eliminate Black health disparities in Frederick County. This Coalition is currently conducting an online survey and asking for as much input as possible from the Black community of Frederick County. We invite everyone to contribute towards these efforts by (1) taking a moment to complete the survey, and (2) passing it along to others within the broader community for their input as well. The more data they can collect, the more impactful they can be.
The survey is accessible online at

It truly takes a village and we could not do our jobs without ours behind us, constantly collaborating and sharing resources. Thank you so much!

Good morning, everyone! Unfortunately, the strawberry picking that was scheduled for tomorrow, June 11, is cancelled. The farm notified us this morning that there aren't anymore strawberries! Please stay tuned for potential blueberry picking. We will keep you posted!

Look out, Butterfly Ridge Elementary School! These baby Blazers are ready to fly! They are headed to full-day PreK or Kindergarten next year, so we had a moving up celebration to send them on their way.
Ms. Florens has been working really hard with our Ready for PreK playgroup to improve gross motor skills and familiarity with routines to help make the transition as easy as possible. Some of these kids have been with the Judy Center for the last 3 or 4 years, so it's bittersweet to let them go. But we are so excited to be seeing them in the hallways next year!
Last week, we hosted another Moms Group! What an incredible group of women that we get to share our time with! Huge thank you to Hot Fired Arts for coming out and walking our group through a painting session. It's easy to see how much fun everyone was having. :)
Our Ready for PreK playgroup attendees are living up to their playgroup name! We’ve been slowly incorporating more and more practice with writing individual letters and their whole names. I can’t lie, I got a little choked up this morning while I was taking these pictures because of how much progress has been made!
These kids really are so, so intelligent, not to mention so loving and funny and all around special. We’re really going to miss some of them next year (not all, because some of them are sticking around!) but we know that they’re moving onto bigger and better things!
We're a little late with posting these, but we had our annual Spring is in the Air Science Night at the end of April. Our students completed many cool science experiments including: planting some lima bean seeds, walking water, investigating the life cycle of a butterfly, and identifying the differences between a gummy worm and an earthworm!
We had such a blast with you all! Thank you to The Science Nerds as always for packing and delivering our science kits. And BIG SHOUT OUT to Ms. Pam, Mrs. Perez, and Ms. Durbin for always being so enthusiastic in helping the Judy Center and encouraging our littlest learners to be successful in whichever ways they choose!
Ms. Slick’s class has been VEEERRRYYYY busy making some awesome artwork to hang on the wall! This is such a cute and easy way to get kids to explore outside and mix it with art!
Chicky update: we have six very healthy chicks! 🐣🐥
Tenemos 6 pollitos!
The Butterfly Ridge Prekers chicks have started to hatch! Ms. Tara came in this morning and this little friend was ready to say hello to the world! We’ve also got two eggs that are pipped (the shell has a hole and you can hear the chicks peeping inside) and one more egg that’s rocking back and forth. We will continue to keep everyone posted!
Rebecca's snap pea plant is REALLY taking off! She'll have some snap peas ready before we know it!
Kaliiyah's snap pea plant is growing! She must be giving it plenty of sunlight, water, and pizza! Just kidding... plants don't need pizza! ;)
In case anyone was wondering, Tony M. Music is THE MAN!
The 34th Annual Children's Festival is this Saturday! Lots of awesome resources and tons of fun activities for the kids. Get out of the house and do something new!

Spring is springing here at the Judy Center at BRES! Our littlest Blazers have been hard at work - practicing their motor skills and creating flowers and butterflies to showcase on our wall outside the door.
We’re buzzing with excitement over how cute it looks!
We recently sent home Snap Pea growing kits with our monthly learning packet and we're so excited to see that some students have already put them to use!
Please don't hesitate to email any pictures of your students doing the activities from the Judy Center to [email protected]. We love to see everyone enjoying the materials that we choose for you and your family!
Thank you to University of Maryland Extension for the growing kits.
Our 2024 egg hatching journey has begun! Hopefully, we will see some chicks in 20 days. Don’t worry - progress reports will be posted along the way.
The PreK classes at Butterfly Ridge get many chances throughout the day to take a field trip to the Judy Center to take a look at the eggs and speak kind, encouraging words to the eggs. Happy hatching, chickies! 🐣🐥
PreK applications for kids who will turn 3 or 4 by September 1, 2024 are open!
Ms. Florens has been doing some really fun activities in playgroup! Putting these pompoms into the correctly colored tubes was great not just for color matching, but also for motor skills and comparing big and small! These are early math skills that pave the way for things like addition, subtraction, etc.
And it’s that easy! ♥️
Yesterday, some of the PreK classes at Butterfly Ridge Elementary took their annual field trip to the National Aquarium! This is their biggest (and longest) field trip of the year and the kids had a blast! Check out how much fun we had!
Thank you to the BRES PreK staff, the staff of the aquarium, and the FCPS bus drivers who all made this field trip run as smoothly as possible. And of course, thank you to all of our parent chaperones - the PreK team couldn’t do their jobs without you!

Last week, we invited PreK and Judy Center families to our Building with Buddies construction night! And look how cute all our little builders are!
Mrs. Cooper read Mighty, Mighty Construction Site and then we used our construction gear (vest, hard hat, and Judy Center tape measure) to do some fun math activities with bristle blocks.
We worked on measuring, patterning and sorting, and comparing big and small. All of these concepts assist with math knowledge down the road in higher grade levels.
Thank you to Literacy Council of Frederick County for coming out with free books and talking to our families about your programming. And big thank you to Dancing Bear Toys and Games for selling us these awesome bristle block sets! We love love love having such an awesome local toy store in Frederick. ♥️

Liam and his sister, Breanna, had so much fun with their science kit from The Science Nerds! Mom said they made a huge mess, but they loved it!
Thanks for the pictures, Sandra!
Big shout out to The Science Nerds for delivering almost 200 science kits to our PreK and Judy Center students. The activities were perfect for our 2.5 to 4 year olds and everyone had so much fun!
