Sharing another great parenting resource (especially for our own inner child). Its a great audio book for parents who already are super busy and may not have the time to read a physical book. It’s truly a guide book for feeling good inside and raising little humans who will also learn to feel good inside. ❤️
Book - Good Inside Parenting strategies robust enough to tackle your biggest challenges, but simple enough to remember. #1 New York Times Bestseller
Not my image, but definitely my story. Yours?
If I Had Given Him Just One Bottle, He Would Still Be Alive - Her View From Home Written By: Jillian Johnson with commentary by Dr. Christie Del Castillo-Hegyi Article originally published on fedisbest.org Landon would be five today if he were still alive. It’s a very hard birthday–five. It’s a milestone birthday. Most kiddos would be starting kindergarten at this age. But...
100% agree!
Wow!
It takes a lot of energy to create life, and now, scientists are saying it takes significantly more than they originally believed.
Research shows that demands 50,000 dietary calories over the course of nine months, 96% of that energy is required entirely from the mother. FYI, that’s roughly 50 pints of Ben & Jerry’s 🍦
Mamas and soon-to-be-mamas? Take a nap—this. is. not. easy!

The finished cycle notification sound on my new dryer sounds like an ice cream truck from the 80s. My conditioned brain is disappointed that its just clothes needing to be folded. 🤦🏽♀️ Hope your day is filled with glimmer memories.

After having a child, I realized that society often believes mothers can't:
- Complain (Who told you to have kids?)
- Cry (Why are you crying? Did you think it would be easy?)
- Get tired (Of what? You do nothing!)
- Sleep (You're lazy!)
- Rest (You'll have plenty of time for that after they grow up.)
- Get pregnant again (Are you crazy? How many more kids do you want?)
- Quit work (How will you support your child?)
- Work (Who will take care of the child?)
- Leave them at nursery (Don't let others raise your child!)
- Be a housewife (Poor husband, who works hard while his wife stays at home!)
- Be single (No one wants a woman with children.)
- Go out for fun (Why are you leaving your child with grandma to have fun?)
And you know what's worse?
90% of these phrases are spoken by other women.
Let's learn to be more supportive of each other. I'm human, and I love my kids, but I've felt all these emotions at some point.

Doomscrolling?
Q: "How is doomscrolling protective? I can't seem to stop."
A: Doomscrolling is a way of perpetuating the disconnect and disconnect is a self-protective mechanism.
Why is this?
At any given moment, the system intelligently assesses
- your needs (including the unmet needs)
- your emotions (including emotional wounds)
- your embodied resources ( awareness, perspective, presence, self-regulation)
..and decides that what is present internally (mentally, emotionally, somatically) is too much for the level of resources the system has or it can process.
When the system is low on resources to modulate the internal experience, it disconnects through doomscroling, binge eating, etc. These behaviors compensate for the lack of embodied resources.
From the perspective of your mind, doomscrolling might be an unhealthy behavior that you rationally know is not good and want to stop.
But from the perspective of your nervous system, doomscrolling is a temporary way to soothe, cope with overwhelm and pain and gain a temporary sense of control.
Doomscrolling protects your nervous system from not being completely shuttered by the internal experience.
While a coping behavior might help the system cope, it is also the primary way of perpetuating the pain.
PRACTICE
Notice what you feel in your body when the urgency to doomscroll appears and while doom scrolling. What is the dominant feeling or emotion in your body? Bring awareness to that. That is the emotion/experience that the behavior protects your nervous system from. The nervous system needs more attunement, resources and safety to start feeling that...little bit at a time.
The book Embodied Healing has a whole chapter on The Protective System, offering insights and tools to work with the system and not against it. Link in bio to get your copy.
