Altrusa International Inc. of Gadsden

Altrusa was organized in 1917 and was the first service club for business and professional women. Our mission is to improve literacy worldwide.

The first Altrusa Club was organized on April 11, 1917 in Nashville, TN. It was the first service club for business and professional women, hence the motto: "Pioneer of the Women's Service Clubs". In 1918 Altrusa became a national organization and an international organization in 1935. Altrusa International continues the tradition of offering memebership to selected leaders in a non-partisan, non-

We held our monthly meeting this past Tuesday night. We are excited to announce we inducted a new member into the Club, Diane Leonard. She's been a part of our group for years, helping whenever she was needed. She has now made it official! Welcome Diane. Thanks to Nina King for providing our delicious refreshments. We made great strides in planning for this year's service projects and looking forward to even more ways we can impact our community. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 20th at 6:30 p.m. We'd love for you to join us!

We had a very productive meeting tonight with the installation of officers and the induction of two new members! We started with a time of fellowship and snacks and then got down to business. We have so many exciting plans for the upcoming year! If you're interested in joining us in serving our community with an amazing group of people, send us a message. We'd love you to be a part of our club.

I would be remiss if I didn't share a short clip of Arnold Montgomery Mouthpieces entertaining us during dinner. Enjoy!

Our District Four Conference's Governor's Banquet was held at the Historic Pitman Theater. Balloons by Sky. provided the gorgeous 70th backdrop on stage. Dinner was provided by Classic On Noble and we all enjoyed an amazing meal of mixed greens and strawberry salad with toasted almonds, mandarin oranges, and vinaigrette dressing. The main course was a choice of stuffed chicken or sliced beef ribeye with mushroom gravy along with roasted root vegetables, mashed potatoes, and yeast rolls. We had a great selection of cakes to choose from! Arnold Montgomery Mouthpieces was our dinnertime entertainment and, as always, he blew us away with his music. (See what I did there?) What an amazing weekend of learning, sharing, and fellowship. Plus, lots of food and fun. We hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed the Conference.

Our fun, along with some serious business, continued on Saturday morning. We started out with a yummy Southern breakfast of butter biscuits, sausage biscuits, gravy, fruit, orange juice, and LOTS OF COFFEE. The tables were beautifully decorated by each club in a Springtime motif. They were all gorgeous! Lunch was catered by JW STEAKHOUSE. Things got busy and our photographer didn't get pics of our lunch offerings, but it was a full Mexican Fiesta buffet including grilled Mexican steak and chicken breasts with all the toppings, along with a Santa Fe Salad with spicy ranch dressing. Oreo Mud Pie and banana pudding completed our meal.
Our lunchtime speaker was Sardis High School Counselor, Lauren Blaker.

Friday evening included delicious food from the Burger 101 food truck, a game themed table decorating challenge, a heart touching presentation from Sleep in Heavenly Peace - AL, Gadsden, followed by an ice cream bar. We continued the fun with games of "What's in Your Purse?," a get to know each other game where we learned who can speak more than one language, who had on colorful socks, etc., and a rousing game of bingo. Then things got completely out of hand with a parade of colorful and fun characters directly through our meeting space!

I'm working on getting the pictures from last weekend edited and ready to post. Here is an album containing pictures of Friday morning's opening session through our lunch time speaker, Raeven Bagley of United Way Success by Six. Our lunch was catered by Little Bridge Marina. Please tag everyone you can. Thanks for your patience. Laura/Lolly
