Prayer and Power

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."
Ephesians 3:20
The apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians has two parts: doctrine (chapters 1–3) and application (chapters 4–6). Paul summarized the first half in Ephesians 3:20-21 by reminding them of two topics he addressed earlier: prayer and power.
In Ephesians 1:17-18, Paul mentioned that he was praying for the Ephesians to know God better and to know the hope of their calling, their inheritance, and God’s power. In case the Ephesians thought that those goals were too lofty for them to ever attain, he reminded them in 3:20 that God is able to do even more than we ask for—“exceedingly abundantly” more. Why? Because it is His “power that works in us.” Paul chose the best words he could in praying for the Ephesians, but then told them that God is able to do even more than he or they could ask for because of His great power at work in their lives.
Pray as best as you are able, then know that God is able to do even more than you ask or imagine according to His power in you.

Infallible Proofs (Dr. David Jeremiah, Turning Point Ministries)

"He (Jesus) also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs."

Though Mark McGee grew up in a Christian home, he became a confirmed atheist and hosted a radio show that spouted geysers of liberal opinions and atheistic arguments. When the owner of the radio station changed to religious programming, Mark began interviewing Christians and playing Christian music. One day McGee interviewed Dr. Henry Morris, and he was amazed at Morris’ sound intellectual defense of Christianity. That led McGee to study the evidence for the truthfulness of Christianity—including the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. McGee received the Gospel for himself, and his radio listeners were soon shocked to hear him expounding the very Bible he once labored to discredit.

When people study the resurrection of Christ from an historical point of view, they often come away convinced it is true. And it is! Thank God today for Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection through which we have the free gift of salvation.

The historical evidence for the resurrection convinced me Jesus is the Son of God. But if you ask me today why I believe, it’s because I’ve known Jesus personally now for 38 years.

Romans -

Reading the book of Romans is walking the Roman Road. Much is to be learned. Paul teaches us well that in spite of our previous life and actions, we can recognize that we (sorta) fail at truly being loving to others. We can see through the fake smiles and the disingenuous hugs, etc.
That doesn't mean we still don't (try) love them back - again, in spite of them.
Love thy neighbor - even when they don't love or like us back.

Are you "diligent" in the Word? In your coming and going to what God has called you to do? Have you asked for God's calling; wisdom, guidance, strength... This is what God says about our pursuit of His calling for us as people of God. "Be Diligent"!

The word diligent means to pursue something with keen attention and effort. It’s a word that often appears in God’s Word. We’re to “diligently” heed Scripture and do what’s right in His sight (Exodus 15:26); we must keep His precepts diligently (Psalm 119:4). Paul wrote, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed” (2 Timothy 2:15). Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”

Speaking from experience, I needed to share this. We all have been wronged and feel angry or bitter about these times in our lives, but - I know that there is truly only One Way to find peace.

Revenge is such an ugly word that perhaps you think you’re removed from it. But even as children, we schemed to “get even” when we thought someone did us wrong. As adults, we often have trouble knowing the difference between being hurt, becoming bitter, and evening the score. It’s human nature to defend our honor and seek vindication when attacked.
In facing conflict or oppression from the wicked, we must never let our hearts grow hardened. There may be just ways of solving the problem, but in the end it comes back to trusting God to vindicate us. Our Lord Jesus was abused, but He answered His critics, not with ten legions of angels, but with the most shocking event in history—His resurrection.
🙏 Pray that when times of conflict come, you will turn to Him and to His Word. Let Him give you wisdom to respond well, and trust Him to be your Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.

Always a Witness!

"So that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ.". Philippians 1:13
Being a witness for God originated in the Old Testament, not the New. Three times (Isaiah 43:10, 12; 44:8) God told the Jews that they were to be “My witnesses” among the nations. Witnesses to what? To the fact that their God was the only true God among the impotent idols worshiped by others. Wherever they went—especially in captivity in Babylon—they were to be witnesses for God.
Jesus gave the same responsibility to the Spirit-empowered Church: “You shall be witnesses to Me...to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Like the captive Jews in Babylon, the apostle Paul found himself in captivity more than once. But even in his difficulties, he never failed to be a witness for Christ. In his first Roman imprisonment, it became known to everyone that he was an ambassador in chains (Acts 28:30-31). The responsibility to witness for Christ is not only for when it is convenient but also for wherever God leads us.
Think afresh today about your life as a witness for Christ; ask God to make you mindful of opportunities to speak for Him.

Let’s start 2024 with Proverbs 20:24—one of the Bible’s great verses about God’s guidance. Sometimes we fret when a new year dawns because we don’t know what’s coming our way—either personally or globally. But our fretting is banished by our faith. The Bible promises that as we acknowledge God over all our ways and days, He will direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”
Our days belong to the Lord—every hour, every second, every moment. And moment by moment we’re kept in His care. Our gracious Heavenly Father knows the way He takes. He goes before us as an ever-caring God, and underneath are His everlasting arms.

As 2024 dawns, claim Proverbs 20:24, and know that God will direct your steps as you yield them to Him in believing obedience. There’s no telling what blessings He has in store for you, and only the unfolding of the year will show you His great plan for the months ahead.

Arise and Shine! Jesus has come!

If you have a room in your house that doesn't get a lot of sunlight, how do you brighten it up? Designers suggest putting one or more mirrors in the room. One good mirror will double the amount of sunlight in your room by reflecting whatever sunlight manages to get in.
Our world is like a dark room right now. To those unsaved, Jesus is like a bright beam of sunshine outside their lives. But we are the mirrors that can reflect His light to others. This is a biblical metaphor. Jesus said in John 9:5, “I am the light of the world.” But He also said in Matthew 5:14-16 that we are the light of the world. While Jesus is the true light, we reflect His brilliance to a dark planet.
Isaiah 60:1-2 says, “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you” (NIV).
Ask Jesus to help you be a light to this world. 🕯️ "[Christ] gives the light, and has ordained that every ray of it is to reflect something for God.". George Wigram

Puritan Richard Baxter once preached a sermon to those who needed to give their lives to Christ. He said, “Heaven itself is ready; the Lord will receive you into the glory of His saints, a vile brute as you have been. If you will be cleansed, you may have a place before His throne. His angels will be ready to guard your soul to the place of joy, if you but sincerely come in. And God is ready, the sacrifice of Christ is ready, the promise is ready, the pardon is ready.”
Then he asked his audience: “But are you ready?”
Because of Adam’s sin, death entered into the world. Because of Christ’s resurrection, we have life. Though everyone is born in sin and will one day die, if we are in Christ, we’ll be resurrected. All of heaven is ready for you to make that decision, which you can make today.
