Many of us will make some sort of resolution this New Year. Some of the top 2022 resolutions are to improve my fitness (50%); lose weight (48%); save more money (44%). While these are perfectly fine resolutions, we challenge everyone to make mental and spiritual health a priority for 2022. When the two are combined, the outcomes are powerful and long-lasting.

Parent conversations: How can we help today's overwhelmed teens? 12/28/2021

Parent conversations: How can we help today's overwhelmed teens? Being a teen has always involved struggle and angst. The difference today is that a teen’s struggles can be broadcast immediately to an entire world of virtual “friends.” Plus, social media has created a constant need to “perform” that doesn’t go away when a teen steps into his bedroom. ...

This year has provided more unexpected opportunities for growth. It is understandable to have many (and often mixed) feelings when we are challenged or stretched, as many of us have been this year. You can tend to these feelings in a compassionate, healthy manner using some of these steps.

Meet Zoey, a student served by the School-Based Counseling Program. Zoey has been in counseling for three years, focusing on managing her anger and learning strategies to cope. Prior to counseling, she was quiet, but would quickly erupt and react poorly to seemingly small problems.

With counseling, she now has the skills and strategies she needs to communicate effectively, and open up to others before she feels angry. Recently, she told her counselor things were going well at home.

She explained that she stills gets irritated sometimes, but said, “Because of therapy, I know how to calm down so much better. Before therapy, I would get really mad and maybe yell or storm off. But therapy helped me figure out ways to calm down and know that I’ll be OK.”

What would happen if adults understood the brain science behind teen behavior? They would better understand and appreciate your behavior. They would lean in rather than clamp down. This is what 36 students from the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin & the Medical College of Wisconsin's 500 Stars Summer Internship Program discussed with Dr. Ashley Schoof, Senior Clinical Director for Christian Family Solutions. We are honored to be part of this program, to hear the insights from the participants, and discuss the science related to their experiences.

Our Story

As Christians, we have found such joy and peace in God that we desire to share it with others. We not only want to bring the Good News of salvation to those individuals who are of our faith, but we also want to do as the Lord has commanded us in Galatians 6:10, saying: “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people.”

This is the reason for which Christian Family Solutions (formerly referred to as Wisconsin Lutheran Child & Family Service) was first established—to do good to all people.

On July 13, 1965, the Board of Directors filed the Articles of Incorporation for Wisconsin Lutheran Convalescent Home, Inc. (WLCH). The Green Tree Gardens Convalescent and Nursing Home was purchased, and WLCH began operating the facility on August 1, 1965.

In January of 1966, it was decided that the WLCH was in need of expanded services not only to accommodate more patients and residents, but also to provide social services.
