Esperanza Hope Snyder featured poet at the Ragged Edge in Gettysburg
We are exited to have award winning poet Esperanza Hope Snyder read for us on May 3, 2024 at the Ragged Edge coffeehouse in Gettysburg, PA. The First Friday reading begins at 7 PM with an open mic followed by the featured reader. Poets are encouraged to bring a poem to read during the open mic.
Born and raised in Bogotรก, Colombia, Esperanza Hope Snyder has also lived in Tuscany, Madrid, and West Virginia. Her poems and translations have appeared in Blackbird, The Gettysburg Review, The Kenyon Review, International Poetry Review, and other journals. Honors include the Donald Everitt Axinn Award in Poetry for Bread Loaf and poetry fellowships for The Gettysburg Review and The Kenyon Review. Former Writer in Residence at Hood College and former Poet Laureate of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Esperanza founded and directed the Sotto Voce Poetry Festival and Somondoco Press, as well as The Society for Creative Writing at Shepherd University, where she served as Poet in Residence. Assistant Director of Bread Loaf in Sicily, co-coordinator of the Lorca Prize, she is the author of the poetry collection, Esperanza and Hope (Sheep Meadow Press), a play, The Back Room (which is being adapted into film), and two novels, Orange Wine and Holy Vi**ra. Her co-translation (with Nancy Naomi Carlson) of Wendy Guerraโs Delicates (2023 Seagull Books) was noted in The New York Times.
