Ernie's Texas Lunch

Last week, Edna Redding and her family came to visit for lunch and to wish me well in my retirement.

She and her husband Mike met when they both worked here for my grandfather in 1948, and they married in 1950. She told me they called my grandfather "Uncle Ern" and that he helped Mike buy his first car.

Mike passed in 2012, but before then, they were regular customers, and always celebrated their wedding anniversary at Ernie's.

Thanks to her family for bringing her to see me. A priceless memory.

He's 93. He plays the piano. And he's really, really good. How Herb Sell still makes music Herb Sell, 93, of Littlestown, was friends with Duke Ellington and Count Basie. He still plays local gigs and wins over crowds twice a week.

34 years ago, we were short-staffed, and our friend Karen Shultz filled in on a busy Saturday for the Sidewalk Sales (then called the "Flea Market") She has been here ever since. Karen has been a dependable hard-working part of "Ernie's" personality for over 3 decades. I honestly could not run our little diner without her. Thanks Karen. 😍

Over a year and a half ago, Jean Green asked me if I’d be interested in doing a presentation for the Adams County Historical Society about my family’s 100 years in Gettysburg. Since talking about myself is one of my favorite things :), I agreed enthusiastically.
Because of the pandemic, all live presentations were cancelled, and being recorded to be presented online. That “forced” me to make this video, the upside being my grandfather’s legacy and family’s story is recorded forever, to be shared by many. Covid has been a real set back to us all, but it resulted in the recording of this story. That’s pretty cool.
Thanks to Jean, and to Antigoni Ladd of the Historical Society for their encouragement, and especially thanks to this amazing little town and all the people here who continue to support us.
