It's that time of the year when many little ones might be meeting new teachers, both in and out of the pool, and we thought a little chat with our good friend Freeya was the perfect thing to help kiddos ease into those teacher transitions! 😉

While some of the tips you'll find here are specific to Goldfish, most of them apply to all teachers, and it can be helpful to remind your little ones that even though change can feel scary - it's okay! It's really just a part of life and sometimes change and trying something new can lead to some wonderful things. ✨

In honor of National Baby Safety Month, we want to open the conversation around all things water and baby safety. 😊 These important water safety facts are considered ones that every parent needs to know. Drowning is an awful thing for any parent to have to think about it, but being aware is a critical part of drowning prevention.

When it comes to our infants and babies, it's never too early to start thinking about water safety. So be aware of the facts and take preventative measures like draining all bathtubs, having locks on toilets and bathroom doors, enrolling your baby in swim lessons (ours begin at 4 months!) and talking with your pediatrician regularly about any safety questions you might have. 🧡

Many of us are still feeling the summer heat, making celebrating today even sweeter. Grab the umbrella and beach blanket - it's 🏖

Whether you're lucky enough to be heading to the beach today or maybe this weekend, remember to keep water safety in mind at all times. Always have an active Safer Swimmer Guardian, pay attention to signage on the beach, keep little ones within arm's reach, and use Coast Guard-approved life jackets! 😎

Did you know the Goldfish Swim School app gives you the ability to fully manage your family account, including adding guardians and swimmers, as well as your preferred contact information in case of emergency or class cancellations? 🤔 All in the palm of your hand!

You can also choose to provide view-only access to an additional guardian, allowing grandparents, aunts, and uncles to check out your kiddo’s progress on the go! Simply head over to the “Responsible Party” option within your “Account” tab and select “Send invite email”. 📧

Pool floaties are not a layer of protection for your child when it comes to drowning prevention. ❌

We know that pool floaties can be fun and colorful, but it’s important to understand why pool floaties are not a safe choice for kiddos. In addition to being prone to breaking or slipping while in use, floaties also teach poor posture and incorrect swimming habits.

Depending on the child, floaties can either cause a false sense of confidence leading children to think that they can swim independently when they’re not yet ready or they can instill fear of swimming without them. Both of these scenarios can have negative effects on children. So swap out those pool floaties for a Coast Guard-approved life jacket and add a key layer of protection by enrolling in swimming lessons! 🧡

It’s time for a Mini Lesson Monday highlight! 🤗

Today, we’re focusing on some Mini Lesson milestones. From singing to gliding, climbing and playing, to getting their face wet and going underwater, these inchstones are big milestones for our Minis!! 🌟

Every lesson, we work toward these important milestones with you and your little fish to help them build their muscle memory and introduce them to the water in a way that is gentle, positive, and encouraging.

Bubbles is building up his book stack and settling in for a long day of reading (after a good swim, of course). 😉 It's National Book Lovers Day and we're celebrating by reading all of Bubbles and his buddies' go-to books. Sloan reminds us that learning something new can feel awfully big, and breaking it into smaller steps helps! We all know that Sloan is one silly sea turtle who’s always ready to play, but he reminds us that sometimes we can feel tired (especially when working hard!) and it’s okay to rest and take a break. happy 😌

Sensory play has so many amazing benefits for babies and toddlers. It's one reason why we chose to incorporate it into our swim lesson curriculum with our Mini Lessons! ✨

From helping babies to develop cognitive learning, to helping with their emotional, physical, and social development, there is truly so much to love about sensory play. 🤗 If you have some favorite tips, tools, or toys that support sensory play, we'd love to learn more about them!

Did you know that learning how to roll onto your back is one of the 5 water safety must-knows?

This is an important foundational skill for kids to learn because, in a water emergency, they might not always have a wall or ladder nearby. Learning how to safely roll over onto their backs and float allows them to conserve energy and catch their breath.

Let us know if this is a skill you're practicing with your kiddos this summer! 🦦

When we think about water safety, many of us think of things like jumping in feet first, checking water conditions, and keeping pools fenced and locked - all great things to be thinking of! 🏖

How about swimsuits, though? Yep, swimsuit color is a very important piece of your child's water safety since shades of blue, light, and pastel colors can be extremely difficult to spot underwater (even in water that is calm and uncrowded).

So instead, opt for neon and bright colors like red, orange, and yellow! ❤️🧡💛

We know that floaties are cute and fun, but it's important to remember that they are NOT actual safety equipment. Here are some alternatives to pool floaties that you can use with your family this summer. Remember, when in doubt, use a properly fitting Coast Guard-approved life jacket! 😉

At Goldfish Swim School, we're on a mission to decrease the risk of drowning by helping as many children as possible learn how to be safer in and around the water. We do this through proactive action and education. One thing that is critical to drowning prevention is understanding that it doesn't look like it does in the movies.

The movies often depict these scenes with shouting and splashing, but the truth is that drowning is often silent and can happen in seconds. As scary as this is to hear, it's important to remember that drowning is preventable. Help us share this message with your friends and family, and always remember to practice active water safety. 💙
