I do like it when things work out as planned. Made to measure, handmade buffalo horn frame. Just waiting for lenses and a good long soak to set this frame up for a long life.

The first temple was easy. Making the other temple match… well, that’s where craftsmanship comes in.

After a recent dinner at Fire Thyme, a place that holds a special place in my heart, I was inspired to create something unique for the esteemed Chef-Owner, Jamie Bisoulis.

Our journey began with Fire, a quintessential element in the culinary world. Thoughts of campfires, sparks, charcoal, and burning wood led us to select a piece of black acetate. Through a series of imaginative experiments, we imprinted a wood grain onto the frame front. Upon separating the wood and acetate, we were pleasantly surprised to discover remnants of the wood within the acetate. The back of the frame was meticulously hand-polished to a mirror finish, accentuating the striking contrast between the two surfaces.

We moved on to Thyme as an inspiration for the temples. We began with a literal interpretation, an attempt to laminate thyme into two pieces of acetate. The results were a spectacular failure! The thyme burnt under the heat and pressure, resulting in the shop smelling like a pizzeria gone bad for an afternoon. After we aired out the shop, we decided to make a nod to thyme with a stylistic engraving on the temple. Seeing that Fire Thyme's logo has a sprig of thyme, we decided to play off this and engraved a sprig onto the outside of the left earpiece. The right earpiece was, in turn, engraved with the restaurant's logo. These engravings were filled in with silver to give a subtle elegance to the design. The inside of the temples is engraved with our office mark and a dedication to the chef herself.

I am absolutely thrilled with the final piece. It truly captures the style and sophistication of Fire Thyme and Chef Bisoulis. Congratulations to her on opening her restaurant.
