We had quite the shoot at LeBlanc's Rice Creek Hunting & Rec. on Saturday! 27 members dropped 124 birds and after quite a shoot, feasted on some great cooking by our Secretary, Jerry Schrank. Thanks to all that came out, our volunteers that helped, and LaBlanc’s Rice Creek for hosting (many commented how great the quality of birds that were provided)!
We wanted to share some incredible news: Capable Partners was recognized today by the Minnesota Vikings as a “Hometown Hero” at the game today. We want to thank our members, volunteers, donors, and sponsors—without your selflessness and generosity, we wouldn’t be here today.
Evan Newton and Brian Shiver were our representatives at the game. They mentioned they “had several people approach them asking about Capable Partners and what we do based on our participation at the game today.”
The Vikings put together a video showcasing our organization that they’ll send to us. Once we get it from them, we’ll be sure to share with all of you.

Hello all ice fishermen/ fisherwomen we know everyone is eager to get out in the Ice Castle fish houses. We still don't have enough ice to safely get them out. The ice is ranging from 7-10 inches on most metro lakes. With this snow it will slow the ice making for drivable ice. We want to make sure we make it as safe as possible for you to be out there enjoying yourselves. We let you all know as soon as we get safe ice and the houses are out on the lakes.
We’re less than two weeks away from the waterfowl season closing, Sunday, November 27th. Let us know by the end of day this Wednesday (11/16), the date(s) you’d like to get out with us in the MN Valley so we can plan accordingly.
One of our groups dropped a banded, drake wood duck on opening weekend. So, when the group doesn’t know who made the shot, we had them draw straws. The long straw went the distance—going to Mike Brown, the seventh of eight hunters that drew.
Mike joyfully accepted the bird and immediately made his way over to our youngest attendee, Aiden. With outstretched arm, Mike extended it to Aiden sharing how he earned it. This is one of the many reasons why our org is so great: because of our incredible members and selfless volunteers. Thank you Mike and all that made the day so special!
P.S. We have openings for waterfowl hunting. Please let us or one of our coordinators know if you’d like us to reserve a spot for you—we’d love to have you out!
We recently sent some of our members up for a sandhill crane hunt to see if it’s viable to make an annual hunt. It sure seems like it’ll be on the calendar from here on out! Pics courtesy of Darrin Gotsch and Paul Wiik.

The 35 mph sustained winds with temps in the 20s were more like a waterfowl shoot than pheasant, but 32 of our members weathered the cold, bringing down 83 pheasants last Saturday at our tower shoot. We’d like to thank Major Avenue Hunt Club for graciously hosting us, Greg Hance for coordinating, Jerry Schrank for cooking up a warm, delicious lunch for us, all our able bodied volunteers that helped move our disabled around, and the five pups (Drake, Sarge, Xena, Zephr, and Jace) that worked the cover so great to retrieve our birds.
