Let's talk about deep tissue massage. Alot of people ask me " what does deep tissue mean?" The short answer is in the name. We focus on deeper tissue. In the image below you can see how the muscle layers over each other. With deep tissue we are aiming to relax the lower levels of muscle. That's not to say we are ignoring the upper layers. What does all this mean for how the massage will feel? With DT massage the MT will use firmer pressure and focus more on releasing tension and muscle adhesion (knots). If you aren't used to deep tissue if can be a little uncomfortable at first. When do I recommend deep tissue? It is really up to what your goals are for the massage. 10 years ago was my first day of massage therapy school. My decision to persue massage was not profound. I needed something new in my life, and if nothing changes, nothing changes. So I decided to try something new. I didn't know how far it would take me or if I would be good at it or if I would even like it. I fell in love with making people feel better and working with my hands and getting to know the human body. Now 10 years later owning my own practice gives me the freedom to take care of my son and still provide for him. I still love it and I learn so much each year that passes. Again I am reminded how lucky I am to be me. My advice to everyone is to never stop learing and trying new things and get out of your comfort zone. Life can be so surprising and beautiful! Thank you to all of my clients and all who have believed in me.
