After graduating from Wayland High School in 2007 Ryan Kaminski found himself in Uganda teaching at several different schools over the summer. That first semester at Grand Valley State University he couldn't stop thinking about Uganda! Several trips back and forth, the purchase of land, accumulating ministry partners, financial resources and construction of several buildings the doors to Rising St

Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world, with nearly 77% of its people under the age of 30. We are truly raising up the next generation... the future leaders of this country!! πΊπ¬
One person holds infinite worth, for within each individual lies the power to change lives and shape futures. We see this potential in every one of these amazing students at Rising Star!!

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now."
We are grateful for those that did work YEARS ago to prepare for our ability to do what we are called to do TODAY! π
Yum! π Lunch! π
Let's get these kiddos up and active as they learn!! Songs, clapping and music are massively helpful in learning and retaining new content!
How many of YOU still remember a song from your childhood that helped you remember something you needed to memorize?! πββοΈ
A quality teacher can make SUCH a difference in the life of a child. We are SO grateful for our incredible teachers here at Rising Star! They make all the difference! β€οΈ

A teacher's value lies in their ability to ignite curiosity and foster a love for learning, shaping minds and guiding hearts toward their fullest potential. Their influence extends beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on the lives they touch, helping to build a brighter future for society.
"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
2 Corinthians 9:6-7
"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, βWhat! You too? I thought I was the only one.β"

There are many incredible languages spoken and understood across Uganda... over FORTY in fact!
These languages belong to several linguistic groups, including Bantu, Nilotic, and Central Sudanic languages.
With that said, we are grateful to give our students a solid understanding and competence with the English language since it is the official language and is widely used in education, government and business.
Sometimes if the team is feeling overwhelmed, a quick walk and a different view gives a totally different perspective!
..and let's be honest - we all just need to get outside for a few minutes and take some deep breaths from time to time!
Significant moments of connection and belonging cues happen RIGHT HERE outdoors between classes. Students build friendships, dream together and determine they are SAFE here and have a future together!
The VALUE of learning to work hard and show up with a great attitude consistently is MASSIVE in a young person's life no matter WHAT country he or she grows up in!
Each student comes from a family that has a story. Some come from a story of strength... some come from a story that needs redemption.
We are so grateful to be a place where ALL students can come in and learn that they get to play a part in a much bigger story that God is telling! β€οΈ
Quiet moments outdoors are SO good for the heart and the soul! If you haven't had any lately... give it a shot! π
These students are SO incredibly creative! π It's amazing to see what they can come up with! π
We find that boys need opportunities to be tested and do hard things! It's so good for them to have to strive and overcome! πͺ
