Dear Yoga Community,

As many of you know, our beloved Hannah is getting ready to spread her wings and embark on new adventures after five incredible years with us. Han has blossomed into a powerful, inspiring teacher, touching so many with her warmth, wisdom, and beautiful spirit. She has become a fan favorite, and her presence here will be deeply missed by all of us.

To show our appreciation and support for Hannah’s journey, we are quietly collecting donations for a gas card to help fuel her travels. If you would like to contribute, a donation of $10 to $15 would be greatly appreciated. Contributions can be made at the front desk. Please keep this initiative on the down-low as we want to surprise Hannah (she’s similar to me and not that active on social media!)

Since our remodel in 2019 we’ve been working hard to get the word out that we’ve leveled up to include more modalities on top of hot yoga. With our incredible team of cycle, barre, strength trainers and yoga teachers, I honestly couldn’t be more proud.
Now with our signage from Handicap Signs it’s definitely official! Thank you to Rhonda Baker, the historical district and the city of Grand Rapids for helping us through the process and always inspiring to bring our very best to the community!

1) It’s used frequently as a transition from side to side or from sequence to sequence.
2) The shoulder girdle is the number 1 injury in yoga due to it not being done correctly. Therefore, with constant repetition and incorrect conditioning, it breaks down the rotator cuff.
Let’s take a closer look at chatarunga:
We start in
👉🏽Downward Dog
Cues:
-glue the first finger and thumb along with all 10 knuckles to the mat
- protract your shoulder blades and lock them into the back body (key)
- melt heart to thighs
- lift energetically up on the sit bones as you lower down through heels
-Swipe Right-
👉🏽High plank
Cues:
- puff up in between the shoulder blades
- pull the core in as you draw tailbone down
- press back of thighs up as you press back thru heels
-Swipe Right-

What is alignment and how important is it in yoga?
👉🏽Alignment is anatomical, energetic and directional cues to keep the body strong and safe as we move through our yoga practice.
👉🏽That doesn’t mean alignment is based in rigidity or uniformity. It can be centered on awareness and proprioception; how we hold our bodies in space and time. It should create a stable structure and a curious mind. It’s a relationship we build with our body through our practice with the guidance of a yoga instructor. What works for one may not work for the other.
That being said, one of the greatest gifts a yoga teacher can offer is her adaptable and accessible cues to ensure each individual is moving safely within their own parameters.

👉🏽TIP: Remember, your practice is intuitive. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. Find teachers that guide from a place of compassion, experience and knowledge. Throwing out the names of yoga poses without guiding skillfully in and out is not only unsafe but it’s not teaching yoga.

💙In this 90 minute class we will nourish, open, and explore the ‘Vishuddha’, the throat chakra. This energy center in the body is associated with communication and connection to the Ether. ‘Vishuddha’, in Sanskrit, means “purification”; by nurturing our throat chakras we create the opportunity to cleanse ourselves of stagnant, non-serving energy relating to all things voice. This can include shifting the way we navigate social interactions, updating our concept of self; removing any negative self-perception, boosting our ability to advocate for ourselves and our community, and finding the cosmic balance between listening and speaking.

💙We will explore fluid movement to loosen the day-to-day tightness, and long holds to aid the release of stored, stagnant energy in the fascia. This class will include sound meditation components like crystal singing bowls, prayer in the form of kirtan, and gentle chanting to increase activation energy toward the throat.

💙Join us in comfortable clothing (wear blue if you want to be festive) with a bottle of water, and anything you would like to add to the collective altar that will preside over the class (crystals, feather, trinket, book, flower, etc). I look forward to sharing space and frequency as we explore our sacred Vishuddha, throat chakra.

We posted this photo of Steven in 2019 during our remodeling phase. He is forever branded on these walls and within our hearts. If you haven’t heard, Steven will be spreading his wings and taking his talents to Denver for his next chapter!! Not only will we be losing a great instructor and photographer but a great friend as well. We want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his hard work and dedication to this community and team. We will miss him SO MUCH.

Please try to catch his classes this week to say goodbye and give lots and lots of hugs. His last class is this Friday at 4:30 and Saturday morning he is off to the big city.
