We don't want anyone to miss out on the fun, so we're starting a brand new program for the youngest athletes in Spartanburg County with special needs.

The new divisions are Young Athletes (ages 2 - 6) and Red Shirt Rookies (ages 6 - 12). This is the first time these age groups will be able to participate in Special Olympics outside of their schools.

We'll be meeting once a month, starting this Saturday, February 24th, introducing the children to the world of sports through fun activities that support cognitive, social and motor skills.

This is a FREE activity, but we do ask that you sign up to let us know you're coming. It'll be at the TW Edwards Community Center in Pacolet from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. The focus this month will be on walking/running techniques to improve balance and jumping skills.

Do you feel like your child isn’t nourished at school or you’ve been told “pediatric feeding isn’t impacting their academic performance?”

If your child has a primary disability or only has a Pediatric Feeding Disorder, your child may be eligible for feeding therapy services in school should your child pass this three pronged test:

“Eligibility team must ensure that the student meets the Three-Pronged Test (34 CFR § 300.8)
• Prong 1: the child is a child with a disability as defined in federal and state laws and regulations and
•Prong 2: the disability adversely affects *educational performance*, and
•Prong 3: requires specially designed instruction.”

What is ABA & how can it be helpful in your life?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy – or Adaptive Behavior Treatment (ABT) – helps to increase behaviors that are helpful and productive, and decrease those that are harmful or adversely affect learning.

Based on the science of learning and behavior, ABA Therapy is considered to be the most effective approach to supporting children with Autism by The US Surgeon General, American Academy of Pediatrics, National Institute of Mental Health, and numerous other reputable medical sources.
