Lacking tongue space can lead to various signs and symptoms:
1. Speech Difficulties: For sounds such as /s/, "sh", "ch", and "j", the lateral borders of your tongue need to fit in your palate and "anchor" on the inside of the posterior molars. If space is lacking, distortions can occur.
2. Mouth Breathing: If your tongue cannot rest at the top of your mouth, habitual mouth breathing can occur.
3. High, Narrow Palate: Your tongue is your natural expander during development. If your tongue does not rest at the top of your palate, it can narrow. This can also occur with noxious oral habits.
4. Snoring/Sleep Apnea: If there is no space for the tongue to rest at the top of the palate, you can experience noisy breathing during sleep, snoring, or sleep apnea due to tongue obstruction of the airway.
We're here to help...give us a call at 864-383-8634!

Here are some reasons why atypical chewing and swallowing may lead to problems:
1. Facial Muscle Imbalance: Atypical chewing and swallowing can result in an imbalance in the muscles of the face and mouth. This imbalance can affect the development of facial structures, including the jaw and cheekbones.
2. Digestive Issues: Inefficient chewing may contribute to digestive discomfort.
3. Swallowing Complications: Inefficient swallowing patterns can lead to difficulties in managing saliva, which may result in drooling or choking.
4. Dental Problems: Improper chewing and swallowing can contribute to dental issues such as tooth decay, as inefficient chewing may leave food particles in the mouth for longer periods.
Have atypical chewing? We can help! Give us a call at 864-383-8634.
The ZURA+ Airway Muscles Training System was created to be used daily to treat sleep disordered breathing and sleep apnea. The "tongue trainer" can be used to add resistance to movements and help with mobility after a lingual release!
Cons: This is direct to consumer, so there is not an individualized treatment plan or therapist to help ensure correct use.
Keep an eye out for more videos on how the ZURA+ System works!...
