Great start to the school year to have all our theatre teachers together! The room keeps growing, and we are excited for Theatre Education in Greenville County Schools!

What a wonderful day for Theatre in Greenville County! Almost 200 students from schools across our county participated in adjudicated Individual Events and One Act performances! It was an inspiring day to see so much talent and community among our students and teachers! Thank you to Wade Hampton High School and the Fine Arts Center for serving as the festival location! Thank you to our guest adjudicators for giving their time and expertise! Thank you, teachers, for providing our students this opportunity and our students for lighting up the stages!

UPDATE 6:45am: Greenville County Schools will be closed today due to dangerous travel conditions and high winds that could impact the safe operation of school buses.

The GCS Inclement Conditions Evaluation team reported road closures, road flooding, downed trees and power lines during an early morning assessment.

A wind advisory forecasting 15 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 45 mph was issued at 3:30 this morning by the National Weather Service. The State Department of Education prohibits the operation of buses in gusts exceeding 40 mph. Gusts slightly in excess of 40 mph have already been recorded at Greenville-Spartanburg airport.

Per the approved GCS calendar, this day will be made up on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

As a reminder, during a closure all planned professional development, training, and events are cancelled, including evening activities such as athletic events, plays, concerts, etc.

Due to forecast overnight rain, wind gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour and the potential for additional flooding, Greenville County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, February 7.

The delay will provide an opportunity for our Inclement Conditions Evaluation (ICE) team to make an early morning assessment of road conditions, downed trees, and overnight wind damage.

The ICE team assessment could result in the cancellation of school. A final decision will be made and communicated by 7 a.m.

In a two hour delay, bus routes begin two hours later than normal and schools and offices open to receive students two hours later than usual. There will be no morning classes at GCS Career Centers and The Fine Arts Center.

Full time High School Theatre position will be open for the 2020-21 School year at Travelers Rest High School in Greenville County Schools District! Huge shoes to fill for Mr. Brown who is retiring this year! Please share this posting and if interested check out the link here:

One of the great things about a lot of our theatre teachers in Greenville County Schools is that they are still artists as well as being teachers! Their experience outside the classroom brings a deeper and richer theatre education experience for our students! Teachers like Anne Kelly Tromsness who commands stage in several roles with The Warehouse Theatre production of THE CRUCIBLE! Anne is the ARMES Drama Instructor and Theatre Performance Instructor at the Fine Arts Center Theatre! The production also features students from the Fine Arts Center! Congrats to Anne, their students and the company! Go see it! It runs through October 13th!
