The Carolina Literacy Project Summer Camp came to a close last week with the theme of theater. Thank you so much to everyone who made this camp possible, our campers have had a great time learning and playing! We will continue to work towards our mission of improving the English literacy of immigrant and refugee children, so please continue to support and follow us on our socials and website!

I’m very excited to be working with these amazing children, who have come from diverse places and experiences. While I’m teaching literacy skills, I am trying to make sure they feel cared for and supported.
I’m a Special Education Teacher at the High School level and have my Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language from Furman.

Here’s a quick recap of our second week at camp! It’s been a great week of learning about sports and cultures from around the world. We also had camp Olympics on Friday. Next week’s theme is art, and we are all looking forward to the great pieces that our campers will make!

Welcome Lucy Oxford to the Carolina Literacy Project Summer Camp Team! Lucy is a senior at Furman University studying elementary education. When not in classes, she enjoys doing theatre, reading, and spending time with her friends. After college, she hopes to teach English as a second language both in the US and in other countries. She’s looking forward to being a part of the CLP this summer!

As summer starts to open up, so do our camp doors! We’re super excited to work with all of our campers and can’t wait for them to fill up the classrooms we’ve prepared. A huge thank you to our volunteers, donors, sponsors, and parents who have allowed this wonderful project to come to fruition!
