September Book of the Month
This month, we will be focusing on the character trait of humility. Having humility is the ability to recognize your strengths and weaknesses, while considering others before yourself. The book for September is called, The Big Cheese, and is about a piece of cheddar named Big Cheese.
Big Cheese is always prepared to win the annual Cheese-cathlon, and is known for being the best at everything and bragging about it. He believes that the secret to success is only competing in what he can win. However, when a new kid named Wedge Wedgeman wins the Cheese-cathlon, Big Cheese must learn about humility. Big Cheese goes on a journey to examine how losses can lend perspective on what is most important.
Home Activity: Discuss together what the student can do when she/he is feeling frustrated, and how they can be an encouraging sport to others.
Read Aloud: https://youtu.be/SEPtuVpA-mE?si=rbkr_3ivflNEoING
The Big Cheese - An Animated Read Out Loud with Moving Pictures The Big Cheese is the best at everything, and brags about it, too. When the annual Cheese-cathlon comes around, the Big Cheese is prepared to win, as always....
August Book of the Month
To kick off the 2024- 2025 Book of the Month program, the selected book for August is called, Be a Maker by Katey Howes. During this month, the character trait of Respect will be discussed as students read about ways to create, explore, and develop a βmaker mindsetβ. The book Be a Maker aims to inspire others to think critically and solve real-world problems while developing important skills such as collaboration, resilience, and resourcefulness.
To access an online read-aloud of "Be a Maker," presented by Ms. Sar, click here: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RscFvgGEs2M)
